that was a great thing with the eps16...the sound even featured on one of my first released songsliars&ashes wrote:----I used to have an Ensoniq EPS16+, and when I loaded up 8 samples or whatever it could handle, and set the loop points on sample #8 too close together, like 0.002 apart or something, then held down a key, it would spit out the most messed up high speed random R2D2 raping Depeche Mode while Aphex Twin watches kind of sounds ever.

best approach may be a hybrid:
program every last beat
VS
"be lazy" and use a randomizing/semi randomizing device like suppatrigga or livecut.
I like to approach from both side of the fence. There should always be an element of spontaneity in your beats and if you map/program/edit *everything* always, not only does that burn daylight, it can sound stilted. enviso's myspace stuff is an example to the contrary (pretty damn amazing example of what ACID can do in the right hands
), but not everyone is gonna get such great results even with the same tool set, etc...
try everything you can: use beatslicers, use audio editors on individual hits, use multiple kits, use randomizers and snag a measure here and there and fold that back into your kits, etc. use cc mapping on fx on your loops, etc. etc. use Liveslice!
use all the tips provided in this thread and others.
see what works for you and what makes your teeth hurt.
At the end of it all, you will be better for trying new and different approaches. Use awkward combinations. There are no rules and no right and wrong. No one is going to fine you for using a 303 sound if you really want to
Always try something you would not think would work. It might.
me got's mysillyspace too:
NINremixes NON NINmaterial
"onlyou" on the remix page is an example of chopping up a couple of vectory
"Thanksgiving Leftovers" is an example of mild LiveSlice abuse and dblue's "Glitch" on lazysnake
(take a peek if you're not too busy listening to better music
)

Seems to be the way to go, right - at least, that's what all the artists known for such stutter, breakup and whatever madness will be telling you in interviews.droneofkc wrote:Sorry for having to say this guys, but it'll always be the most important thing to avoid to much "randomness". Twist your shit manually...programm or fuckin' render it the way YOU WANT IT to be...
BT (you may like his sound or not, but he's certainly one of *the* masters of the tools) is known for having up to several thousand (manual) edits on some stuff.
I think he also said that in case he's using plugins, everything will be rendered, to allow for manual finetuning.
Also...
... this would be pretty much proving your point!
Freaking excellent! Just love that mixture of styles and you certainly have great command over your tools!
I'd really love to know how you did several effects, such as the slow down stutter on the vocals at 1:06 or so.
Really, I love that mixture of "classic" songwriting and glitchy, stuttery and whatever modern stuff.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Daisypusher was designed to make music COOLER than AphexTwin or SquarePusher, just turn off the feedback.

Get Renoise, or pretty much any other tracker. Stick a break in it. Glitch like it's 1996.
Trackers are still unbeaten in this area IMO.

yeah, renoise and skale ( the only ones i have really made any headway with ) are a lot of fun to mess shit up with. but part of my process, and part of the joy that i get from making music, is setting up environments in ext where there is a certain amount of controled autonomy going on with the machines. modular synths, synth-edit contraptions, and MIDI tools; all interacting according to my precise instructions, and playing back to me the music that i heard in my head when i woke up that morning.

i LOVE it. there is almost nothing that i like more.
maybe sex, and heroin, but i can't really afford either.
