I love working with logic 5 on my pc. I would love to have all the new features that are in logic 7 but me and macs are like fire and ice. Ontop of that the huge price tag. PCs are like a part of me. I can fully customize them and know my way around them.

Recently, I did a test on my PC and wanted to share the results. I created a test project with the following:

- 16 ESX24s (all loaded with 16bit drum samples)
- 9 ES2s (all loaded with pad presets)
- 23 Logic FX (mostly reverbs, delays and phasers)

Here are my specs: AMD Athlon 2800+, 1GB RAM, Asus A7N8X Deluxe Mobo, M-Audio Audiophile 2496, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, Segate Barracuda 250 GB HD with 8MB cach

My Rasult: CPU maxes out at around 95%

What do you guys think about these results? Good or bad? Are yours better? Lets create a standard project file that we can all test and compare ehhe

If I add approximately two more ES2s with pads I will get ASIO System Overloads. Is that normal?

Please share your specs and results.

What to do? You guys suggest. Ahh, if there was something like Logic for PC...

skip the apple crap.
apple sucks.
why?

because i cant afford one.
and because they look gay.
and because if i could afford one, i wouldnt buy it, because all mac users seem to have an extremely gay attitude towards computers.

just my observation.

Just another example of why it's so pleasurable to visit here if you happen to own a mac. Homophobes are idiots BTW.

Logic and Digital Performer are enough to keep me using macs. Plus the amount of support for audio and MIDI built in to the OS is pretty dammed nice too.

I want to see some benchmarks!!

Do you think my performance results are bad compared to yours?

Please provide project info, computer specs and cpu results.

Don't believe warp x, I once tried to use my pc Logic on a mac and it wouldn't even load it !

IMO macs don't function at all ! But nobody wants to admit it because they've spend so much money on it !!!

If I wouldn't have my pc and my eyes, I wouldn't see a thing ! (Confusius, or was it me ?)

TBH I don't care at all what runs best on what, I use macs AND pc's.

pc logic works on my mac .... just double boot a mactel ...

A subject Im still very bitter about. Was a Logic user until Apple bought them out :X

I understand you feeling comfortable on a PC and knowing what you're doing but I also think you should never put off trying new stuff and trying new ways of working which, I suppose a different operating system will give you.

I have a PC and a Mac, when I got the Mac I also bought one of those "....For Dummies" books. Was very helpful and showed me all the places I needed to go to get things set up.

Also, you have access to the internet so theres really no excuse for not being able to find out how the OS functions.

As to swithing platform, that of course is up to you and there are many reasons for and against but to my mind the old arguments dont hold up any more. XP has exceeded OSX in terms of stability, for me anyway and the old "Macs are twice as powerful as PCs" was never true anyway.

Don Buchla did always design his machines with the interface in mind and I think that is hugely important because ultimately it doesnt matter whats going on inside, its all about how you interact with it. And on that front OSX is great eye candy and I guess this has a large effect on your perception of a system.

A wise man once told me, choose the software you want to run and then buy the the best computer you can afford to run it.

If you can afford it that is. If you're going to use it as a "for music only" computer i don't see a problem.
Logic will still look the same (more or less) and you won't be using the OS much. If you're running Logic would you even notice it is a Mac (if it was'nt for that little apple in the top left corner) ?

I don't quite get the point of the original post. Do you want to play the "my computer is bigger than yours game?"

I mean, someone with a faster computer is going to be able to run more CPU munching processes, and someone with a slower one will be able to run less.

Is your computer the fastest thing on the planet? No, I dare say it's a fairly averagely powerful home PC.

Do you need to be able to run more tracks/instruments/plugins? Upgrade to something more powerful. If not, forget it and make some music.

I can't see the point of endless benchmarks unless it's for a specific purpose (for example, benchmarking the performance of your computer against other similar computers to see whether you are getting the best out of your configuration).

If you want to run Logic 7, you have to get a Mac, so pick one that suits your budget and requirements.

If you search around you will find loads of Logic benchmarking songs, no need to reinvent the wheel.

Or you could just spend the time writing a new song, I guess...
