First, you are reading the REFILL right? There's a specific .rfl file for use with Reason. Secondly, it needs to be Reason 3. The loops play when you hold down the key and stop when you release (I believe it is a low C or D... it's in the read me file). Then you can have the loops play from the sequencer continuously by sending the rex player's midi to the track. Hmmmm. I guess we can include song files in the future with the midi already sent to the track if that makes it easier.amyjer wrote:Quick question from a newcomer. I received the Studio Profiles today and loaded them up hoping to play the kits in Reason. However, all the sounds get chopped off - am I doing something wrong? Is this a sustain pedal issue on my controller? The loops sound great by the way.
Thanks.
Jeremy
Studio Profiles let's talk about it,,,,

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I am reading the refill file in Reason 3.0 and I will use your recommeded steps to play the loops. Is it possible to trigger the samples with midi or only play the loops? In other words, can I "play" the kits used in the loops?

You can both play the loop itself (trigger it) via one of the keys that Reason assigns to it (I forget which... C1 maybe or D1... it's in the read me). But, you can ALSO play the individual slices by transfering the rex file over to the NNXT sampler (which actually you can do simply by reading a rex file FROM the NNXT) and that will lay them out across the keyboard. It's not quite the same as having the original KITS but it is still useful for programming variations. You can also choose to add a little velocity to amp modulation in the NNXT for more dynamics.amyjer wrote:Thanks for the quick reply. I think I will do a tutorial on each format (maybe a video) to show hwo to get the most out of our loops in Reason, Stylus RMX, Live, FLStudio, ProTools, Cubase, Logic, GarageBand... this way you not only have the sounds but ideas on how to get the most out of them. We'll do this for free. It's planned. All the videos I've been hinting at in the past will finally be happening this year. (including tips on finger drum programming with Imap and more).

Hi Squids,
don't know wether that's the best place to ask, but it's about loops and it's about quality which makes me feel I'm not wrong here, either.
I'm looking for percussion loops - more what I'd call "classical" percussion (mabye as opposed to more "ethnic" stuff, don't know). You know, bongos, congas etc. (Hmmm, might be I'm actually looking for Latin stuff?).
Do you have some in your pipeline (maybe R.A.W.)?
thanks & cheers,

Yes. All of the above actually. We have a lot of latin/standard percussion stuff that will be released soon. I also have a session tentatively planned with Beth Gottlieb (Danny's wife) who is a professional classical percussionist. So, we'll do lots of classical cymbal crescendos, triangle loops, timpani "riffs", snare patterns... and as always I take requests!!! Seriously, if anyone wants to pull a short clip of any classical or film scores that have a certain percussion lick (or even sound effect because we're working on that too with a new SR sound fx team) and point us to it then we might just go out and capture something like it!
In fact, for future Studio ProFiles feel free to post a clip of a groove in a song as well. Can you do something like THIS? I'll collect them all and bring them up in appropriate sessions. How cool is that?
For example, we have a session coming up with Doane Perry, the drummer for Jethro Tull. Any Tull fans? Any requests? He can also play pretty much any beat (hard rock, classic rock, progrock or any other style as well because he's really diverse). I will try to give you guys a head's up on what sessions are coming up in case you have any requests. I don't want to list anyone officially until its "in the can". There is a long list of tentative sessions in various degrees though. I will reveal some and some will be a surprise.
By the way, RAW covers a little of everything. So, it would be a good thing to have to supplement Studio ProFiles. Tons of percussion in there.

Hi Squids,
nice to hear your announxements.

I'd would like to do that. But I'm afraid I won't be able to do it early enough for your sessions. Hmmmmm, a day needs to have at least 36 hours, but I will see.

Huge Tull fan here! I would love to have some Cross Eyed Mary type loops!! Also Minstrel in the Gallery! These are some Tull Classics, and I think these would be great to build some of our own stuff to. I think we have the Mellotron Strings in the Tron collection, too.
Who would be a poor man, a beggarman, a thief --
if he had a rich man in his hand.
And who would steal the candy
from a laughing baby's mouth
if he could take it from the money man.
Cross-eyed Mary goes jumping in again.
She signs no contract
but she always plays the game.

Ditto that, Harmony. Another big Tull fan here.
Got to see a Madison Sq. Garden show in '73 and then their Shea Stadium show (with Rory Gallagher and Robin Trower opening the show in separate sets) a year or two later.
I didn't mind if they groomed me for success, or if they said that I was just a fool.
So I left there in the morning with their God tucked underneath my arm, their half-assed smiles, and the book of rules...
Of course this was all Clive Bunker/Barrimore Barlow stuff, but still...
Actually, rhythmically what sets Tull apart is all the knights-of-the-roundtable period percussion stuff. They used all kinds of interesting instruments that you don't find on other records. Not to mention that they had one of the few radio hits ever that was recorded in 5/4 time (Living in the Past).
In addition to Minstrel and Aqualung, I think Heavy Horses (not their best commercial moment) had some very interesting stuff that would make great modern loops. Mouse Police Never Sleeps comes to mind along with a few others. But again, these are well before Doane's time with the band.
Tull is amazing. They are coming up on their 40th(!) anniversary, and they're still recording. Incredible.
