Yeah and we all know ORION leaves a bigger icon on your desktop, and has bigger DLLs.you guys recently got v6 and we're about to get v7
Note to self: call next release version 9, so we'll be way ahead others.
FL Studio is amazing. Why is it so cheap?

Same with ORION, although I remember fruity 2.7, then 2.71, 2.72, 2.73 following in quick succession to fix the things that had been broken by the original new version.arke wrote:Well, version numbers aren't really indicative of how far something is, just how whoever counts their stuff. I believe there were alot of version 1.x and version 2.x FruityLoops, so I think it should rather count the amount of updates, and how large they were.
Well it didn't have VSTi support or a piano roll until v3 so its had plenty of scope for improvement.Dunno, I've never used an old version of Orion, so I don't know how far it did come ... I did find a version 1.7 or something of FL by chance, which I played around with a bit, and it gave me somewhat of a scale of how far it got.
Did you look in the shop? HERE. You'll see that whilst the boxed editon [which has been $199 for some time now, not $249] is unavailable you can get a download version for $50 off. $199 - $50 = $149ninjadroid wrote:As for this $149 Orion, I can't find it, but I did find a $99 version which doesn't support audio recording. I think that would be best compared against the $99 FL edition, making the superiority of either product in the VFFM department difficult to ascertain.
What is there in FL Standard that you could not do as well with freeware? Is 3xOsc so much better than Synth1 or PolyIblit that you could not replace it? There are plenty of free alternatives which severely devalue built-in generators in every host.Well, then we have a standstill. Clearly, I think the built in FL tools are great --- and so do many other people. However, you think the Synthedit brigade is superior. Rather than challenge you on this, I'm curious: what standard of proof would you like to use to establish superiority?
Do you have any grounds for this? It seems you haven't effectively argued my refutation to this thesis. Nor do I think you've presented a sound refutation of FL's high VFFM in general.[/quote]I don't begrudge them making money, I just think that "lifetime free upgrades" is something of a marketing con.
Sure. How much did audio recording cost you as a fruity user? $50. How much did it cost ORION users? $49. How much did it cost Fruity users to get a fantasitc, versatile, full featured FM synth? Plenty! How much did it cost ORION users to get something comparable? Nothing. How much will it cost a Fruity user to get a good multi-sample instrument player/builder? Whatever DirectWave costs. how much did the same functionality cost ORION users? Nothing, and we got it years ago. So what Imageline offer you are all the little things that you get in free point releases for most downloadable hosts but for all the big, cool, licensed from 3rd party stuff they ask you for more money whereas the developers of competitive products like ORION and eXT include them in free updates.
Yes but FM7 comes in a box with a printed manual so they are definitely making less money per unit sold. Its probably closer to the $75 IL get with the XXL bundle. TOXIC 2 is very damned good for $70 [or free if you are an ORION Platinum user].The cost of FM7, the competition to Sytrus from NI, is $289, vs. $179 for Sytrus. And if you get it as part of XXL, it costs around $75.
Well I'm glad we finally got that sorted out. Although it is WaspXT we're talking about, right?tony tony chopper wrote:In case you still haven't understood BONES:

We'll probably be beta-testing v10 by the time that happens, given your recent record. Weird really, given that you license all the cool stuff.Note to self: call next release version 9, so we'll be way ahead others.

Yes, let's ignore distribution and retailer margins and pretend that we're all stupid [easier for some than others].

yes, let's pretend you can't buy directly from NI's web site
top facts about ORION:
-there are only 2 music genres: music made with ORION, and crap
-bug: noun: any software behavior that's not like anything in ORION
-the brown noise is not a myth, but only WASP can produce it
-Microsoft licensed ORION, changed its skin, and called it Vista
-BONES only wears his funny glasses not to hurt his eyes when looking at other crap sequencers
-Kasparov ended up defeated by Deep Blue because they finally installed ORION on it
-Terminator's script is in fact ORION's manual, they just replaced ORION by SKYNET
