How good is it for making loops, midi files and small sequences etc (since that's all i use fl for.)
Well according to Bones, Orion is the god of all hosts and FLStudio sucks in every way compared to it.

Actually, I downloaded the demo and it turned out to be pretty fun to use for doing just that - creating loops, small sequences, etc. The way it checks for VSTs is the only thing I can fault it for. It takes FOREVER to scan your VST folders and last time I scanned for them it froze my computer. :(

native

did you want to pay in Scottish or English pounds?

My vst collection is minimal to say the least anyway, so that's not tooooo much of a worry. Demo...good idea :P

This was the first time I scanned for them. I may create another folder just for the only VST I ever use and have it scan that. If it works, I'll buy it. :D

Excellent. I have made all my commercial drum loops in Orion.

I think when it comes to drumloops, FL has Orion beat.

When it comes to quickly coming up with nice complete melodies, Orion beats FL.

Thats just my opinion, of course, but it might have something to do with FL starting out as a drum machine before becoming a fullblown sequencer.

I got that impression, too. I always find it easier to put together a chord progression in FL than I do in any other host, though.

Well, found an immediate positive...i have the boris k synths, and in fl, when you press play/record, it stalls for a bit before doing so, but doesn't in orion. Btw, it took about 1 min to scan for my vst's, but that's more than tolerable. It looks pretty good overall. I'm ceetainly going to spend a while with this. :tu: Only £120 too :hyper: :hyper:

Utter bollox.

When it comes to drumloops and melodies, talent beats them both, hands down.

How long will it be before you realise that is has little to do with your tools (insert playground snigger) its how you use them. Look at the pyramids. They use string, not Total Staions and Theodilites!!!

Now run along and do your homework.

In FL's Audio Options, uncheck "Reset Plugins on Transport" - this will stop this behaviour that happens in many SE synths.

Of course, c**t, the difference is that its easier. We prefer the easier tools, right? Hell, I could be making pretty much the same music I am now with a hardware synth, a few guitar pedals, and a 4 track. Why don't I? Because its easier to do with software.

Drum programming is easier with FL. Thats all I was saying.
