Just ordered my upgrade from Cubase SE to SE3...I didn't buy a dongle because I figured I could user either my Miro or CSR dongle.

However, it struck me that it might be to my benefit to ask that question :dog:

So...can I in fact use one of my IK dongles for SE3?

Ferris...anyone...Bueller?

Thanks!

Yes, I believe you should be OK as they are both Synchrosoft dongles. I use a single Synchrosoft dongle for both Cubase SX and Korg Legacy Collection.

Correct. It's the same thing. Doesn't matter which one you use.

Unless you loose THAT single one. That's the reason why I'll keep using different dongles
until I'm running out of usb slots.

The best thing to do is treat your USB key like you treat your CAR keys! It holds the key to some pretty valuable stuff. I am the king of losing things and I haven't lost my USB key yet. It's too important! I have my Cubase, CSR, AT2 (sorry :hihi: ), Ampeg :o and Miroslav Philharmonik all on there.

I didn't save my last Keyboard magazine, but it had a review of Philharmonik that pointed out major problems between its dongle and the one for Cubase. The dongles are different types and the reviewer had to get a special one sent from IK, along with reinstalling Cubase a couple times to get everything to authorize. Maybe IK has sorted that out since then.

I know that, in order to install the Korg key onto my Cubase dongle, I needed to upgrade to the latest version of the Syncrosoft software (free of charge) - perhaps the problems related to that?

No that's misunderstood. This is how bad rumours spread. Craig had other issues with his computer that were not something that commonly happens. But, it was sorted out fairly quickly be me. Craig LOVES Miroslav and uses it all the time now without a hitch. Ask him yourself on Harmony-Central. He has a forum there.

Updating to the latest version when prompted is always important. There IS one thing that is a pain in the butt with the Syncrosoft key and that is that you DO have to follow the directions properly with regard to when you have the key in or not when you authorize if you have Cubase licenses already on the key. One of my employees at SR made this mistake and I've seen a few customers do it. (If you follow directions properly then you're fine). All that happens is that the other syncrosoft license can temporarily get interefered with and inaccessible until you do something simple to get it back. I forget how you do it but it is someting you can do and takes 5 minutes but you can just call tech support to get help if you make that mistake. But, since the instructions tell you otherwise it IS a user mistake.

Personally, I like it when there is little the user can do to mess something up. But, we all know that with software and USB/Firewire hardware there CAN be an important order of operations. So we should no better to take care.

Can't resist asking:

When you lose your car keys, in order to get them replaced do you have to pay for (buy) the car a 2nd time? That's how it works with Steinberg, I believe. You lose your dongle you have to buy the software again.

Grrrrrr...I wasn't going to say anything, but you DID bring it up. We're closing in on the last week of March, and STILL no AT2 in sight.

I just received the spring catalogs for 3 different retailers that all list AT2 as if it were immediately available. If it's really that close, it would be nice to get a press release or something with a date for shipping...

Your personal copy of AT2 aside, this is still vaporware to the rest of us.

If you've announced something and I missed it, then my apologies. But you've got to admit that this is getting a little ridiculous.

Are there two types of keys?? Is there a difference between I-lock and Syncrosoft??

Post

iLok is a PACE key. iKey is syncrosoft.

iKey is IK's name for the syncrosoft dongle, as Steinbergkey is Steinberg..

iLok on the other hand is not Syncrosoft, it's antoher type of copyprotection with a key.

Ahh, I see, thanks

Yeah, and when I finally plop down the cash for CSR, I get to join the ranks of 3-key holders: Emagic, iLok and iKey.  :dog:
