Try DSounds GT-Player - I can get quite close with it (there are already 2 VH presets made to start from --> some "adjusting"/"configuration changes" needs to be make).

I'm almost sure it's been more or less exactly as people have been telling allready, just not sure whether Mr. Van Halen is using 3 channels (mid dry, l/r effected) or just two. I think he tried with both setups. Seem to remember something about a 20-25ms delay for the effected signal (on his live setup that is), using both TC 2290s or Eventides.
I think that an important factor to have this "trick" working is to start with a not so much overdriven sound in the first place, which should help to keep things articulated.
IMO your example has a bit too much gain.
But uhm, boy, you really know how to play. And I know it's not just some licks being called up, you can indeed improvise as well.

There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

You know who I am man. I know what he used. Live is another tale. delay times need to be set for the 'arena' so yea they could go up. Use your ears. Tweek to tast. Even if you are trying for some cover band use your ears and your intererpretation.

No mystery Sickle. I worked for Eventide for many years. Created Orville (ands its spin-offs), Eclipse and all the effects that went in them. As I have had this conversation here several times most folks know who I am. As far as Eddie well, I know what he was doing with his H3000's. We built some presets called 'BrownTone' , 'Womnanizer' something like that - for his basic texture.Sickle wrote:Hey, Mystery Guy, uncool innuendo!!loophead wrote:You know who I am man.
