Sorry to annoy you KVRers about more cubase problems, but I am bringing my Cubase thread here.
Argitoth wrote:I applied reverb as an insert to the input of the microphone audio track. Only when something is recorded will reverb be applied to the audio output. How do you get the audio to be affected by effects real-time? As in before any recording is done. For example, microphone audio in --> reverbed voice out.

Argitoth wrote:on or off, i can still hear the mic without reverb, but when off, the recording actually comes out of the speakers (with the reverb).
Argitoth wrote:ok this is ridiculous. if I rapdily turn monitoring on and off while talking into the mic, it creates loud reverbed clicks and captures a split second of my voice and outputs it with reverb. Now, if I rapidly turn on and off monitoring and I'm NOT inputting anything into the mic, there's no clicks.

what the hell is this?
note that the mic is inputting to the reverb for split seconds which is confirmed by the reverb input meter. Reverb A. And I've tried this same scenario with Absynth input, Ambience FX input, and Chainer FX input. Note: I use Cubase SL3.

You are saying you want to record the mic input with the reverb permanently printed, as if it were outboard gear being recorded?

Post

no, i simply want to talk into the microphone and hear a reverbed voice. This has absolutely nothing to do with trying to record my voice. I am just confirming that the reverb does actually work by recording my voice and playing it back with the reverb effect. But I want to hear reverb on my voice as I speak into it. Right now all I hear is my dry voice regardless of insert effects.

thanks for your help. if I can figure this out I will be very happy.

I don't follow you. The reverb works, but you don't want to record it. What about if you create a reverb Effect Channel and then send your input channel to that? Or you can insert the reverb on the input channel. I do these things all the time, works fine.

I think you are confused. Hippo was talking about direct monitoring in your Device manager, not the monitor (orange speaker) on your midi/audio tracks. Direct monitor can be switched off in your audio driver tab in Device manager. With that done, you will be able to monitor with FX, but not print them to your audio track, or print them if you wish by inserting the FX on the Input channel the dry signal is being routed to.

Your whole post is kinda confusing, so I apologize if I don't understand.

There's a thing called input channel. Learn what it does and then come back.

I'm waiting on my cubase upgrade so I don't have it loaded on my mac yet...

Can't you arm the track for recording without actually recording?
Play what you feel and feel what you play.

There is operation manual. Do yourself a favor and read it! You won't find anywhere "step by step record for dummies" for sx3 8)

Post

Oh and rename the thread please: "I cannot do the most simple thing, like reading the manual" :P

There's actually a brilliant video tutorial DVD available by Askvideo. It starts with the most simple basics, and ends with very advanced and cool tricks. I've watched it and highly recommend it to anyone. I thought I was a poweruser before watching it.

Thank you that works. This is why I brought my question to KVR. Cubase takes a few days to get responces.
