Manytone,
I was using Manyguitar for a project today, which turned out great, but when I tried to play some solo guitar, there was noticeable latency - did not matter which preset I used.
No other vst instrument has latency issues and I have some serious doozies!!!
I have plenty of memory considering the few tracks that were laid down and was freezing all synths anyway to make sure my cpu headroom was high. The cpu meter in Sonar never went above 30% the entire time, yet there was noticeable latency. Perhaps there is a problem with the vst instrument? Any other complaints about latency?
No, as far as praise: I was reminded just how incredible manyguitar SOUNDS by using it today. Wow!!! And the use of modwheel for vibrato and screaming leads is FANTASTIC. Also, the pitch bender works perfectly, and I cannot say that about all vst instruments.
In the end, I was able to lay down the solo tracks and then fix the midi notes that were affected by the latency, so all was not lost - however, it would have gone more smoothly if there was zero latency.
My specs:
Windows XP
1GB DDR RAM (will be upgrading to 2GB soon)
AMD Athalon 64 XP 3000+ (running at 2.2 ghz)
EMU 1820M with onboard DSP and two daughter cards (running ASIO2 drivers at 5ms latency)
Tascam FW-1082
Sonar 5 producer edition
1.6 TB HD space across multiple drives
ATI Radeon 9600XT Pro
Technics KN7000 as my MIDI master keyboard through USB 2.0
I used Stylus RMX (all 8 tracks), the M42 Nebula (background lead) and Manyguitar (lead guitar preset) for this particular project.
Just thought I'd ask.
Mike
Possible latency issues and yet more praise

Hi Mike
I have never had a problem myself or a report concerning ManyGuitar and Latency.
I can assure you that ManyGuitar uses one of the fastest sample engines available and that it is pretty much Bug Free at this point. (Should be 100% by next update.)
I think what you may be experiencing is typical system Bog when too much is going on or combination of certain instruments ... This is well known to affect latency and other things. For example ...here i can start my latency at 5ms when i start a track (on most but not all Instruments) ... It does not matter what VSTi i use (Lets say no Manytone vsti). As I add more instruments and FX i then have to go up to 11 ms latency. This is with any Project on my system even if no ManyTone products are involved. If i add more my system needs even Higher Latency settings. You say you are at 5ms .... well it has been discussed here at KVR many times about having to increase your settings in your host as you add more Stuff. I know I could not do here what you described without going up a bit, no matter what instruments involved. (But thats my System... see below).
Have you tried just ManyGuitar on its own to see where your trouble might be? I know I can wail it fast and with no latency issue at all here and I have it on an AMD 1800 (ancient system) on MAudio Soundcards.
Now some Instruments are worse than others but i have never experienced it bad with ManyGuitar. In fact considering that the amp sim alone can produce sounds and tones along the lines of the best amp sims available (or better - read on...) and Manyguitar runs at only about 3% cpu with all FX including Amp Sim, Chorus, Echo, Tremolo etc. It really is a huge Accomplishment on the coders part. (Yes about 3% with all FX!!!)
Check this out....If i take one of the "expensive" amp sims and run it with Manyguitar ...the "expensive amp sim adds about 12 - 20% cpu and eats my latency settings and Track Count, and I still get better tones and squeals out of ManyGuitar with its own Amp Sim and can Run quite a Number more instances etc. (As most of you users know
)
Anyways I know we have never experienced what you describe nor have we had any of our users report anything like this. At this point I can be pretty confident in saying ManyGuitar has never caused any trouble whatsoever in that department. Hopefully we can help you figure it out better with further investigation.
(Private joke for Mike ..... Check your ManyMapper folder for the Magic Latency Patch ..perhaps applied incorrectly
)
sorry Mike, couldn't resist ... there is no such thing
Cheers
Paul
