I would like to learn about creating alien voices, strange voices, godly voices, ghostly, monstrous etc. etc. Where do I start? The only advanced process for voice manipulation I know of goes like this:

1. REVERSE REVERB
Ingredients: Reverb

Step 1: Record voice
Step 2: Reverse the recording
Step 3: Add reverb to the recording
Step 4: Reverse the recording again
Example: www.argitoth.com/files/Architeuthis.mp3
"Recording: This is Architeuthis, fear me."

2. UNREVERSED REVERSE
Ingredients: Talent

Step 1: Record voice and write down what you are going to say
Step 2: Reverse recording and write down the syllables so they read like the recording
Step 3: Study until you can say it.
Step 4: Record voice
Step 5: Reverse voice
Example: www.argitoth.com/files/helpmeee.mp3
Recording: "Please help me, I am so confused!"
Recording: "hd-zoooooweef-nok ose ma yaaaaa, eeeeem-plehhhhh zeeeeelp."

If you have better titles for these processes, please suggest them.

May I presume to suggest Metal Demon, one of the Psycho Toolkit bundle at www.cloneensemble.com. There's an MP3 there that demonstrates it, and the demo (ie crippled) version of the plugin is free.

Another strange effect is to read a paragraph and cut out all the extra space between words. It sounds paranoid.

I also like putting a little tremelo on vocals with a tiny bit of ducked reverb. It sounds like a... transmission? Or... A ghost? I don't know how to explain it.

On a further note, Argitoth came from the name Architeuthis when I was watching a video in 4th grade science class. That was around 7 years ago.

Umm, back on topic. Can we not turn this into an effects thread? People have been manipulating voices since sound was brought into movies. That means there's so many old techniques.

noise reduce process the wav half a dozen times after bitcrunching, invert and paste over original. timestretch that, slice all the words up and paste them on 2 tracks overlapping 'about where they should go,' then reverse verb process that.

oh, crap, i just read the first post.... try my effects... seriously.... i use mostly acapella tracks for inspiration and developement, so, i think yeah, um, www.onlydover.org - cool? let me know if you don't find a crazy enough plug.... there's lots of other great devs out there, too, so you're in the right place... Cyclotron makes you sound like some kind of demon, and Gsnap autotune going into Cyclotron makes you sound like a Britney Spears Demon.

ah ok. i don't mind if this thread turns into an effects thread....... lets make this thread useful by posting steps and results, please? Maybe dover666 can post some examples? pleez? and label them Daemon Voice or whatever they are supposed to sound like.

Edit: I'll gladly add them to the first post.

ummm... hmmm since all i could really give you is the steps it took for me to design the plugs, i won't do that.... but.... i will tell you the patches on most are to show you how far it can go.... adjust wet/dry esp., and try low amounts of feedback... say, take Spliff Kamp, right, and some feedback, right, strap it to daisy with wide, dry reverb... and no feedback... meh... i tried... my site is full of FSU stuff... kola is in essence um... FSU Synth, loads like an effect (so it can be utilized as a VC device....) - um, play, have fun... i have a lot of fun with every single plug i've ever downloaded ... don't doubt the kvr devs... we give good stuff.

May we discuss the ways of voice manipulation?
