Just a word or two about SpinnerLE ( original thread here ) ...

The beta period is over, the first release hit the web last Friday (17 March 06) and the download count is rapidly approaching 2000. I am glad so many people are checking it out. The overwhelming response has been, well, silence ...

No bug reports - No feature requests - No new donations. Emails from new users saying thanks? I got two of those.

So the question becomes: What can I do to get a few more good people off the fence and into the NuBiLE/SpinnerLE fold (i.e. make a donation)? While I'm asking questions - How come there has only been one review of NuBiLE since its initial release? I'm very interested in understanding the dynamic on this one as well.

my almost-a-rant is over for now ...

peace,
pj

The reason you haven't heard anything from me personally is because I have B4 1 & II, which I never use, but your Leslie effect looks cool and I can definately use that, so I just donated, now gimme my full version and be quick about it..

:P

You know, I don't think it's indifference. For me, I downloaded so I wouldn't forget, but haven't had time to actually unpack and use them. I imagine it's disappointing to hear so little feedback or thanks. I've seen comments from others who've released plug-ins and heard little or nothing. Then a lot of people feel bad and post messages of appreciation.

Now I feel bad for not having at least said thanks.

This whole plug-in business really is interesting. I have to wonder why anyone wants to be in it. I have to ask, why are you coding and releasing these? I'm just thinking that perhaps this is how things are. I read a few months ago that someone had two or three donations after many months, and I thought, well...perhaps the greatest value is on what we pay for. :)

Ok, who are you and what have you done with the sickle I came to know? I've been wondering. :hihi:

@PJ: I'm guilty of downloading it...actually, I requested the initial NubiLE via email...But to be honest, I haven't been able to spend much time playing with it. Actually, to be exact, I've only loaded it into the NubiLE once, and that was in v1.0something (an earlier version than the current incarnation), so I could play a few chords and gawk at that sexy Ameobe interface on my new monitor. I downloaded it with the intention of making presets for it though, which hopefully i'll get the time to make one day; when I do, I'll donate accordingly. :)

Well, it's a stunning pair of plugs. I gotta say, though, that VSTis seem to be a pretty thankless business. I think we're mostly just a bunch of gearheads here. A bunch of collectors. You have to be making these things just for the satisfaction of making something so incredibly cool.

The pay is bad, the thanks are insufficient. A bad business. I don't know what to say except you did an amazing job.

Actually, your not applying full thought to the matter. Now that I'm a donated persona, I can now punish him by being an obnoxious asshole about any bugs or feature requests I can think of while picking the lint from my navel..

I find navel lint extremely painful to remove, but that's just me ...

I always forget to check for it until it's sticking out of my shirt.

Believe it or not, I hadn't even considered this as part to the dynamic - but it does make sense.

It is disappointing - but after my experience with the original NuBi I had hoped to be a little more hardened to the realities

It's not too late - go ahead, say thanks ;)

Yes it is how things are! And it's not all bad - there are some really fabulous people who have supported the NuBi line of stuff from the begining. I haven't forgotten them. I would just like to increase the number of NuBi supporters

You can pay for NuBiLE if you like ;)

As I said in my previous response, the idea that people just leave NuBi LE laying about unused is new to me - but I can completely understand it. I suspect I too have done the exact same thing from time to time

I do hope you find it useful!

That has to be (by the nature of this VST "business") a large part of the satisfaction - but the other large part (for me at least) is having something that I think is pretty darn cool be accepted and respected by others.

Well, I tried them, and given how little I like organ sounds per se, Nubile wasn't all that interesting. Spinner I like better and could see myself using, but 1) I don't know what the full version has that the LE version doesn't and 2) I think setting the donation yourself, and at $28, may be part of the problem. Make it $15 or even $10 (or leave it up to the donor) and you might find a lot more interest in donating. I'd say almost $30 is well above the price point that many will find reasonable.

Dare I say it, but pj seems to be having the "posihfopit experience", if I may be so bold. When things can be free, but aren't really, they usually end up being free, if you know what I mean. I've almost stopped using posihfopit out of guilt because I know it's just a slightly scaled down Electri-Q and that Christian is a struggling student who could use the cash, etc., but I'm not convinced it's worth what amounts to about $100 US to me. I have to try some more of what's out there in EQ land first.

I just got the latest Spinner/NuBi LE and I too have not unpacked it beacuse I'm drooling over OB-8's on ebay and also finishing basic reinstalls on a new system. I also don't play very much organ (mostly synth and acoustic/orchestral samples in GS3).

After I give it a try, I'll seriously consider the $28 donation. That sounds like a reasonable sum to me for a good rotary speaker plug alone (don't know about it since I haven't DL'ed Spinner before, just the various ToneWhls/NuBi/NuBi LE variations and I've pretty much lost track of which is which). :D

Thanks, though, pj, for continuing developments and setting a very reasonable price point, IMO. More people should donate if they are really using these plugs rather than just "drive by downloading" as is so often the case with new stuff on KVR.

Good points - I should think about revising the donation trigger points. FWIW, there is a ton of stuff going on in the Spinner sound engine and the original marketing concept was to support NuBiLE by donating and then get a Leslie sim as a bonus. That model is slightly (well mostly) screwed up by me releasing a free sim with basically the same engine as Spinner. I am currently working on finishing the NuBi/Spinner "Plus Package" - a sustantially improved version of both.

There is much to think about - thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I hope the underlying problem isn't about being driven by guilt - but I now have read a couple of posters who have expressed guilt for downloading a free "thing". It's free so you can check it out without guilt ;)

The latest NuBILE and SpinnerLE is probably all you need to get a feel for the NuBi line of plugs
