Bug reports, a few.

Positive comments, more than a few, so I can't complain in that regard!

In fact, I can't complain at all. We're all still a pretty happy bunch of BetaBugs. I've personally donated to more devs (4 with cash donations, 2 with "labour") than our entire product line has received, but no biggie. If a few people are spending their small amounts of cash on say, TweakBench, GVST, SmartElectronics, or whoever-- I don't begrudge those developers that amount, either. :D

Greg
Betabugs rules man. I use these (and I do intend to donate once I get paid again you and Graham of GVST are the next in line after Chris nash):

feedbug, bugpass, crayon filter, moneo, svf2, w1, flofi, and monstachorus.

I also use NubiLE but not enough to justify donating yet. ZR3 comes with Tracktion and it's similar and already free/paid for as well. :(

Still, PJ, great work man. Thanks.

And as for the developer of plugin job being a rough and thankless road to walk, it is but the squeaky wheel gets the grease as this thread itself proves... And also please realize that some people donate by giving back too in terms of support/presets/graphics/mentoring/etc..

NuBi LE and Spinner LE are free - and always will be - this (as I mentioned above) is to provide a guilt-free means of checking out the quality of the work. The donation price is a trigger point above which an additional set of products will be made available as a "thank you" for the donation. BTW, this approach has been vastly more successful than with my marketing attempt of the classic version of NuBi available last year.

This is exactly what I'm trying to do - see above ;)
ravasb wrote:Otherwise, a developer could just be clear that he is offering his or her work as a benefit to the community, with no expectation of financial support. People would feel less guilty, and perhaps more likely to use the instruments.
Again, it should never be about guilt - I am hopeful that I've cleared that up 8)

mistertoast wrote:You people who say you don't like organ sounds--I have to wonder about that. The organ lives all throughout blues, pop, and rock. It's even in some hard rock songs sitting there where you're not aware of it. I'd bet it's in at least 40% of anyone's list of the top 100 classic rock songs.

Even if you don't like it as a lead instrument, think of it is the ultimate "pad." It's been around forever, and it'll be around after all the current pad instruments are gone.
 I'm not saying organs aren't a huge part of decades of great music, but they're not something I use or care for. I do agree they can sometimes be an effective pad. Of course, I'm not too fond of the ukulele either. :D

On this note, I've been using Spinner on hihats and guitar and even tried it on vocals :P I really love your work, PJ, so once again thank you!
A guy with serious GAS and lots of unused VSTs. But if I someday need them...

OK. I buy that. You never know when it'll be just the right sound for a track, though. Even a uke. I thought I was tired of vibes until I heard The White Stripes most recent album.

Sorry I haven't piped up, yet, pj, although I'm sure I've thanked you privately...

In all seriousness, the donation was well worth it for me, even if just to ensure this vibrantly contributing community stays alive.

Thanks pj - Nubi and Spinner are awesome!

PJ, you are the next on my list to donate, really! But not right now possible:(
For me it also was okay when you made a payware-nubi version, so it's absolutely quality stuff.

Why don't you sell the pro-version while offering a small version for free? Maybe people would take this more serious :?

Though I like the donation-concept, but..? :( Does it work?

Nubi is worth some bucks to buy for sure!!

Another thing is: Marketing (I'm not good in that either). All the commercial software-companies doing lots of shouting/advertising, but it has not to be expensive doing that, just more shouting with high frequency in some forums eg. :?:

Thanks a bunch for your lovely organ-plugin (and the spinner though I didn't really check it out already, but will! ) :)

If donating is a hardship please let me know - we can work something out I'm sure.

I suppose it would be a good idea to restate the current marketing plan - it hasn't changed much but there are some things that are worth repeating.

What I'm doing is kind'a like a reverse group buy for the "final step" in the NuBi line of plugs. Along the way the final lineup will include a 2-manual tonewheel organ (NuBi Plus), a ridiculously full-featured rotary chorus plug (Spinner Plus) and finally a 3-manual + 1-pedal board be-all-to-all-tone-wheel-lovin-people thing called NuBi3.

The idea is that each time the feature set goes up, the minimum buy-in goes up. Currently it is $28 for the Spinner/XOvr pair. When the plus package comes out it will be $38 to buy-in at that time (but here is the deal everyone needs to remember) if you have already donated at any previous target point you will get the new plugs for free - As I have indicated before, I am not trying to soak the small but loyal group of contributors for additional funds. Once is enough ;)

SpinnerLE will always be free, I will very likely release Spinner Plus as a stand alone Plug (unbundled from NuBi Plus) available for some nominal fee - probably half of $38 so lets say $19

Sound good? I hope so!!

peace,
pj

I would be more comfortable if the developers set a price that they seemed reasonable and maybe released no limit, cut down versions for free as an incentive to upgrade. This is something HG Fortune does. I wind up buying everything he makes.

Otherwise, a developer could just be clear that he is offering his or her work as a benefit to the community, with no expectation of financial support. People would feel less guilty, and perhaps more likely to use the instruments.
I think he only set the donation price as a lower limit to get the upgrade. If someone wanted to donate $5 and just use the LE versions but feel like they donated my hunch is he would accept the $5.

The free/donate/donate more for an upgrade marketing plan always made sense to me, I just lost track of what was free and what wasn't, since there have been several incarnations, but I think I have it down now. :D Still haven't tried Spinner but I plan to this weekend.

BTW, rotary speaker is most definitely not just for organ. Carlos Santana has stereo rotary cabs as part of his standard live setup, and they work great on synth, too. Heck, the Beatles even used them on vocals sometimes.

The deal with rotary is that it has elements of several other effects that it naturally creates (which is likely why it is so hard to emulate well). There are panning, tremolo, and phaser effects all going at the same time. 8)

The NubiLE and SpinnerLE are real great sounding plugins. Great GUI and very easy on CPU.It's ahead of most digital stuff.
PJ you've got some great ears and you're a great designer.
Altough I'm a guitar player I have recorded with real Hammonds and leslie in the past.NubiLE and SpinnerLE really come close.
Everybody should try this!!
I must say I did not make a donation yet due to the fact thatI'm
just foolin around with the (free)VST stuff at this point.I'm still lookin for things to forget the hardware.
I have not recorded with it and as soon as I will publish some music I will make donations!!
I would say that everybody who's makin money with it should consider to donate.
keep up with the great work

regards
Jan

Keep in mind, pj, probably the majority of dev's DL's are "curiosity DL's". It's very hard to say how many people end up keeping or using much of what they DL on KVR. I have tons of free stuff I don't use much and many, many payware demos I've barely tried. Since .dll's and plugin support files are usually pretty small, the drive just gets piled up with them over time and I barely notice. This is KVR, man. You gotta DL at least three new things a day. :hihi:
