So what, there's not a single one I'd rate [in fact there is not a single one I could whistle or hum even though I know lots of titles] and there are probably guys who have written more advertising jingles than that in their lifetime. Its all relative. After all, what genres other than Classical did Mozart ever write for? Pretty limited talent when you think about it in those terms.dick wrote:a question for all of you
1-Mozart lived 35 years
2- he composed just over 600 compostions
3- he used only a quilt pen
4- how long did it take him to write out all the notes of all his compostions?
My take is that Mozart was the master to end all masters
he could think musical thoughts faster than he could write them down
do the maths

God! I can't read anymore of this drivel. Its pure nonsense. I'm moving on to Fruity bashing, which is at least interesting.
Not sure i understand you, if by evolution, you mean a tradition develops, yes, I accept that, but the discussion to start with was not centred on Mozart, and i probably should not have brought him into it at all.DaveSmom wrote:(Ed: "Do the math")
Roger Waters is my Bach

Springsteen is my Dylan
and
New Order is my Kraftwerk
Like I said, evolution
Let me add in the same line: I'm glad Mozart existed to create the kind of music he created, but i'm even more glad he's not the only musician ever to exist and create music.Ildon wrote:I don't think you can compare any two composers, because everyone has their own way of doing things. I don't think you can compare say... Mozart to Beethoven. I don't think you can compare me to Reverse Engineer. I learned this recently. Smile
Yeah, maybe, but its way more difficult to do when there is no need to. I can do long division in my head because when I went to school there were no calculators. I had a Chemistry lecturer at uni who was forced to memorise log tables as a freshman because it was a very handy skill. Mozart did what he did because it was the only way to do it. I'm sure he couldn't sing along with as many songs as I can. i.e. My memory is full of useless lyrics to songs I heard at the breakfast table when I was 5. Everything from Lily the Pink to Ferry 'Cross the Mersey. Its frightening.dick wrote:3- Because he had no sequencer he had to hear every single instrument and part, very hard to fake that kind of skill
See above.5- it is not all relative, skill is relative to genre, but not relative to talent within a specific genre, and there is a big difference, if i am a guitarist in a modern band my skills are relative to a symphonist composing for a modern orchestra, but a very definte skill exists to produce the authentic musical content within any chosen genre that a musican chooses to work in
No, my point was that for me Mozart doesn't stand out amongst classical composers. I can rip into Beethoven or Strauss or Prokofiev or Wagner or Tsaikovsky but if you asked me to hum some Mozart I'd be completley stumped.7- if you cant whistle a single note, you have exposed the futility of your own argument.
Pal, I wouldn't go lookin'. Anyway, the guy was a fruitcake - you must have seen that film [pronounced fill-um].In terms of Mastery you would be hard put to find composers who compare.
It changes every aspect of our lives, as does the nature of society. I'm sure Mozart didn't have to spend half is bloody day queueing up to pay his bills or stuck in traffic and he probably didn't have to do his own grocery shopping. He was fortunate to have the time to concentrate on music without distractions or without having to deal with record companies and tour managers and engineers and producers and all of that krap.dick wrote:I was just thinking of how technology changes the nature of how we create, not just technology as in vst's sequencers etc, but also the broader use of the term
This problem of yours keeps surfacing Nuffink, maybe you should see some professional help about it.nuffink wrote:There are people on this very forum who can write both Pys-tarnce and Goat-tarnce.
