Well, i know a person who is going to start a studio and buy Pro Tools because thats what the clients would want (he told me).

Thats actually kinda of my point. Pro Tools isnt any better than any other good products. All products can go dick-up. Although I must say if I ever get the money I would get an HD system. THose should be the most stable and powerful I would think..??
yep i was just reiterating your point from my experience.
my experince with protools is only a recent thing, 6 months or so, and i havent seen anything yet(aside from video) that it does in any way better than anything i already use. if i added up the cost of my full audio sysytem i still dont think id have spent as much as i would on one g5 and digi 002 combo. thats includes all my bits of hardware and all my plugs too, so VFM wise its not a great package.(imo)

Exactly what I told my buddy, but he is a stubborn ass and for some reason thinks IM just "defending" my products (cubase Sx and Emu 1820m sound card) I told him to waste his money, I couldn't care less.

Exactly, and that's why serious Engineers and Producers use it. It's not unusual to do 75% of your project on an LE system and take it to a larger studio with a TDM system to finish up. If you are working with clients and renting your home studio out, Pro Tools is a must for compatibility reasons. If you only need a workstation for your own needs then use whatever you are comfortable with. The only reason Pro Tools has gotten so big is becasue it is in the major studios, although it is the HD systems, not the project Digi oo2 or Mbox or so forth.
I've been in this stuff from the start, and have used Cubase and Sonar. Though there are other hosts with more bells and whistles, nothing compares to Pro Tools for workflow when working sessions.
LE systems can produce incredible results! The only difference is that in LE systems your effects processing is handled with software which taxes your CPU somewhat, depending on how many plug-ins you are using, and TDM systems use hardware for their effects processing. As far as the belief that the LE system is some weak step child to the TDM system, is a load of BS. The quality comes from your knowledge of recording. We have a TDM system and LE systems. An experienced Engineer, properly trained, recording and mixing on an LE system, will blow the doors off of someone with less skill on a TDM system. In fact I'll take my partner and put him on a system running M-Powered on a $500 computer system and blow away most of the Engineers working on a $100,000+ system. It wouldn't even be a contest!
Rarely is your hardware and software a barrier today. The real barrier is that there are a lot of people out there with workstations, (be it Sonar, Cubase or Pro Tools) who don't have the proper knowledge and training on how to use their gear. Recording and mixing is a lot more than getting sound from the mic to the hard drive. They are all very good hosts! But, if you want to be compatible with the largest studios in the world, and would like your skills to transfer to other audio industry positions, Pro Tools is a must.
