Squids, I have an unusual situation. I registered my Amplitube 1 in August of '05. Can Elijah help me out to get in on the download, since I'm a Platinum member, have a key, just barely missed the freebie??

He can't do anything about the download because that is done by IK automatically. However, anyone who bought AT1 from esoundz either close to the cutoff (or even at all) can contact elijah@esoundz.com to see what he can do for you. All things will be considered like your esoundz membership level and/or your frequency of IK purchases (if you depend on esoundz for IK products then he will want to make sure you feel that was a GREAT choice, let's put it that way) and your attitude in general. Obviously if you are friendly or helpful on forums then that is appreciated or even if you just ask nicely I am sure he'll do SOMETHING. As always we'll do the best we can for you guys.

Sounds good Squids!! I'll contact Elijah. It's definately a good idea to buy from eSoundz. I am going to be very nice. 8)

OK! I'm good. I have Miroslav so I have an iKey.

Play on brother!

I've just tuned out on the dongle/key issue cause I've used CUbase since it was a parallel port dongle. They have never proved any problem for me on any of my DAW configs and so I have avoided the dongle-religious-wars. In doing so however I realized I have missed how this all works with products from other vendors. Consequently I have a couple questions.

1) As I understand it, CSR (and by extenion other IK products now and in the future) can be added to my exisiting Cubase key. If so, are the instructions on how to add a license to a key that has exisitng license(s) included in the CSR manual or do I need to look elsewhere for this procedure?

2) Since I will now have two physical keys (one from Cubase and one from CSR) does the second one serve any purpose such as a potential backup if breaks/dies/disappears. I am assuming that I can't have both active for a single product at the same time, but is there a procedure to "relicense" the software to a different physical dongle?

Enquiring minds want to know as I await the friendly UPS man to deliver my CSR.

Dan

EDIT: Sorry, after posting I relaized this is the AMP2 thread not CSR but dongles are dongles and I don't feel like retyping. Please forgive the semi-off-topic.

Question to anybody that has more CSR and Miroslav, i.e. How does it work to have more than one license in only one key? I have CSR and the key that came with it and I'm not sure how the AT2 installation will go.. will it just automatiaclly detect the key I have connected to my PC already?

Vocalvoodoo wrote:Great news Squids!! So am I correct in assuming that since I bought an AT1 cross-grade from you a couple months back, I can go buy this dongle and then download my free update as soon as it's available?
Yes. Actually, here's a tip. If you want to buy the Ikey from IK you can do it in their on line shop but I recommend doing it ASAP! Why? Because there could be thousands of people doing it and then even that will have a wait. So, if you order it this week you should be okay (well, if you order it before this is even announced on Monday or whatever then you are in really good shape).

However, your best back up option is to buy a Steinberg Key! This is actually available in a lot of stores and it will work fine (same exact thing).

We're going to carry keys on esoundz too but don't currently. I didn't think this was going to be an option or we would have ordered a bunch of keys to help out with this. Well, anyway, I did my part in helping as best I could. Good luck!
Greatly appreciated. I jusy wanted to make sure. I'll be heaing to the local Banjo Mart to get a key. (I would order it from IK, but I want to make sure it's in my hands when the download is available:) )

For those pesky dongles...there really no problem!

I have Miro, CSR, Cubase and Pro Tools LE (different dongle.)

I bought Miro first, followed the install instructions and had no problems.

When I did the install of CSR, I took all the dongles out fired up Tracktion, put CSR on a track. I don't remember exactly the order but at some point it told me tto put in the dongle and I did so and registered/authorized. I shut down Tracktion, plugged in the other keys and was good to go.

I recently upgraded Cubase from SE (no dongle) to SE3 (dongle.) I didn't buy a Steinberrg key cuz I already had 2 iKeys. This time I installed SE3 BUT Ididn't take out the dongles.. At some point either during the install or after I fired up SE3 d/l the license and asked me which key to put it on. I picked one and it did it. No issues. Cubase had instructions on what to do if you already had a key so I just followed them.

Syncrosoft installs the LCC (License Control Center) software which you can use to transfer licenses from one key to another. I haven't done this yet but I suspect the license you transfer from one key to another gets deleted from the first key, so it's only a backup in that if you lose the key or it gets destroyed, you could work out somehting with IK or Steinberg to get your license onto blank key.

I'm not sure how it works but it even looks like on IK's site you can do this yourself. I suspect however that only one license is active as they are based upon the key itself. In other words, the CSR license is coded based upon a specfic iKey.

It's much like the same type of copy protection in place for many programs that use a computer hardware profile to generate a serial/license pair. The good part is that if you reformat or change processors and add other hardware it doesn't matter because the key imprint is always the same. AND you can install the software on multiple computers (if the license allows and key-based software usually allows this) and you just plug the key in and go.

Obviously, some of the bad is that it's taking up a usb port and unlike your computer, it's easier to lose or damage. Lot's of opinions on them...those who are opposed are pretty passionate about it. Those that aren't opposed aren't going around talking about how great they are

Me, I could care less but I don't need to use any of this software in a gig and all my dongles are on a powered hub that sits on my desk.

Probably a lot more info than Juan or Dan wanted but I've typed it all out and I'm not deleting or editing any of it :-)

I owe you a beer for that one! ;)

Thanks Beergeek, that info is great. I haven't had a problem with my dongle myself so I have no reason to bitch about it. So it looks it's gonna be fairly simple to install AT2 on my existing key...good to know!

Uh, when you're in England next, pick me some Ruddles County Best Bitter ;-) Although you can get Ruddles here in the states, you can't get the Best Bitter.

I think it was probably Eric Idle's fav too  Or you could send me some Alt Bier when you're at Musikmesse ;-)

In leiu of that, we'll work something out

Truly, I hate to see people miss out on great products like CSR, Miro, AT2 (I know it will be great), Cubase, Pro Tools...etc...just because of dongle-phobia. If you follow instructions, it's pretty easy. If you don't, you must be a programmer and all I can say is RTFD.

Better yet, get some of the Mini Studio ProFiles that weren't on the SE version up so I can download 'em dude! I can't wait for the full songs, especially if there's some Steve Gadd and Ed Greene... Steely Dan is number one on my top ten...can't believe you got TWO of the Steely Dan drummers.

Speaking of Steve Gadd, I notice you have a set on the Q up Arts page, what is that? How is that set different from the Studio ProFiles series??

Man, I TOTALLY agree. At least coming from you there is no reason for anyone to think you are trying to pull the wool over anyone's eyes for personal benefit. I think when I say it people think I just want to sell another copy on esoundz. I mean, of course that would be nice. But, regardless of where the person buys it if it is a great tool then it should at least be known and if it takes some encouragement from people like you or me and others to help people from being isolated from a great product because of... as you call it "dongle-phobia" then we can only do our best.

I think a lot of people make a much bigger deal about it than it is. I mean, no one particularly LIKES it. Who WOULDN'T prefer simple serial copy protection???? That's a given. But, more and more products are being protected. If companies could choose either syncrosoft or Ilok at least that would narrow it down to two though. I wish they'd make a key that has another USB female connection on the end of it so you could daisy chain them or retain your port. Wouldn't that be cool? Let's all request it from Syncrosoft!!!!
