Hi, I know it's been done and I have read all the threads but after checking some of the suggested keyboards I need to know more.

I've tried M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 and don't like the feel, same for CME UF8 (even worse keyboard).

I liked Yamaha S90 though.

Is there anything cheaper in the Yammy range with the same keyboard?

Or anything similar from Roland/Korg?

Sounds are not that important for me.

Try the Casio PX-110 if it's available in your neck of the woods. IMHO it has the best action of all of them, and at a bargain price as well.

Well, there's Yammaha, Roland, Korg, M-Audio...only really cheap stuff from Casio,

there's a rave review of the studiologic VMK line. there's the VMK-161 plus, VMK-176 plus and VMK-188 plus. they are all fully-weighted.

If I had to do it again, I'd buy another Yamaha P-80. I'd buy a nice second hand P-80 and not a new P-120 or whatever. There's never been a better hammer-action controller, not before or since, and not even the new versions of the same model from Yamaha.

This is going back a ways but the two best 88-key controllers I ever played was the venerable Yamaha KX-88 and the Roland MKB-1000. Ok, that dates me back twenty years! I admit, the newer controllers feel like rubbish.

I've been looking for the same thing. The only thing I've been able to try so far was the Casio and it did feel very nice. The only thing that's bothering me is that it doesn't do a lot with midi.

The Yammy P60 is the same keybed as the S90. $750. It's great, and what I bought myself. It was the best feeling hammer action board I got my hands on.

So we do agree it's one of the best keybeds available?

I'll check the p60. it's around 800$ new here.

Another vote for the P60. Together with Steinberg Grand, it's a thoroughly convincing piano experience! Another plus of that unit is that the built in piano sounds are really quite good, it's always nice to get some practice in while my computer is busy rendering or defragging...

M4M, your messages are hard to read! It's funny, but it sort of forces the eye to skip over your posts, in a purely involuntary way...

i was just about to order a Studiologic 990XP on the basis of reading reviews etc. They are UK£339 and heavy, but otherwise sound OK to me. Sadly, there is no chance of trying anything like that in Glasgow before buying.

Am I doing the right thing?

i'm not sure if there are differences, but i own the studiologic 1100 and i love it!

it is built using the Fatar TP30 weighted action keyboard mechanics.
it was also (coincidentally) the same controller used by PMI when they tested the PMI Old Lady piano sample instrument.

the velocity response when using the Old Lady is outstanding.
