Absolutely. Because you see, saying that something sucks(even if it obviously does) is not constructive criticism, but saying that something is great, fabulous, wonderful, best thing since slice bread , in the exact same amount of words is.

One shouldn't hurt the feelings of software developpers. I mean, they are so kind to already share their dsp homework with us humble mortals.

Hmm. This is so typical here? When someone starts saying that he doesn't like product xxx and its bad? then other people starts shouting troll and you are an idiot?

btw i am a newbie
No, this is not the case.
but somebody bringing the reputation of a product down,
only because HE cant get the results that HE
is expecting,
even tho he had tried the demo version before,
is simply unfair and stupid.
So, who is to blame?

15 posts and you already know everything about kvr?

btw. I did NOT call him an idiot. I only said he was behaving like one in this thread, and IMHO mainly because he needed to blow off steam.

Anyway, there's a HUGE difference.

Now who's trolling? You added nothing at all about the subject at hand. Why did you need to post this?

For the record: I'm a happy RaySpace user. I get sound out of it without problems. I understand that that's not always trivial, because there's both a 5.1 and a stereo version. I enjoy RaySpace mainly because I can draw lines with it and then get a sound out of it. I've also learnt to always put a limiter behind it, but that's always smart with filters, delays, reverbs, convolution, etc.

newbiesarecute,
The point is not that anyone is a troll or an idiot. The point is that if we all took our own personal purchasing decisions as the basis for our information about a product then we'd not get very good or fair information about that product.

I am not having a go at Architeuthis, or at anyone else. But it is clear that a lot of the information about Rayspace in this thread is based on a bad purchasing decision in the first place, and that seems to me to be something that requires some balance and perspective, if not for Architeuthis then for others. My main criticism was about the topic name.

I tried the demo of Rayspace myself and very much admired what it did and how it worked (and for me it worked fine, I should add). I didn't buy it because it was not good timing for me financially, so I've no agenda here at all.

I'm hoping that Architeuthis will come to not regret the purchase and that good use will be made of it. Perhaps that will happen with some familiarity with the software.

Not all the time... But when that same person spews off nonsense about bestiality and what-not, most of us will react the way you mention above.

You don't sound like a newbie to me, you sound more like some kid who is desperately starved for attention.

Sorry mate, there's plenty of them around here already.

Same here. RaySpace remains on my shopping list, where it'll sit for a while due to the same money issues. Based on some limited tinkering with the demo, I think the mistake here is to think of it as a reverb in the common meaning of the term. If you want plate/small room/big room/concert hall and all those kind of common presets, there are alternatives, some perfectly good ones free.

RaySpace, as I understand it, is (a) based on a fresh approach to modeling the sound path (bubble tracing), (b) capable of modeling asymmetrical, even totally weird spaces and (c) allows you to mess with other parameters like sound absorption by different surfaces, etc. If all you want is a 'techno' reverb, there are surely plenty of choices from 'free' up to hundreds of bucks.

If you want to do difficult stuff, this is the kind of hybrid reverb-convolution device that allows you to do so.

It's a luxury purchase, but I'll probably go for it at some time. Meantime, Architeuthis, if you don't need it and they allow license transfers, you could always try selling it to me :P

I'm sure the RaySpace devs can explain their case much better, and probably will

HI

Why not contact the developer, I am sure if you have a sensible gripe he will consider looking at it?

I would never use Ambience in a comparrison; it simply guzzles so much CPU cycles as to be in a world of it's own.

Flipper.

Hmm.. I feel that you simply bought the wrong reverb. It's obviously a bit too complex for you AND it was never meant (AFAIK) to be a lexiconish "loudness curve/fine grain" kind of reverb that is used in trance music. However, it CAN be tweaked to sound pretty ok.

How does this sound in your opinion? It's RaySpace (sorry bout the demo beep.. had to cut that out so the rythm will be messed up in the middle but you get an idea).

RaySpace if far from being perfect but it is a pretty good bang for the buck. What it needs to become a more universal reverb is a proper modulation engine (there is kind of a modulation engine with the pitch mod thing but it needs to have a modulator like a chaotic LFO to it). It also needs a second, proper "pre-delay" setting as the first is used to discard unwanted early reflections. The second one would then act as an ordinary one. This is very easy to replace though with an ordinary delay in the reverb send.

Another problem with rayspace is that it's very hard to get a truly wide reverb sound. It's always a bit cramped and leans more towards the middle of the stereo spectrum. Kind of like the modelled microphones/head is more XY microphone setup instead of ORTF or wide A-B. I think the developer should seriously consider giving the user full control of the receiving "mircophones" or head.

Cheers!

Wow. How about read the thread? And also, how about test it yourself? You will get the same result gauranteed....

edit: hold on. I'm going to make a more useful post in a second with more samples detailing the EXACT problem.
How about you comment on MY example? I'm still quite convinced that you simply bought the reverb in hopes of something that it can't deliver because it was never designed to. Further more, you obviously fail to see that what YOU consider "important for a reverb to be able to do" is only YOUR opinion and has possibly no real truth in it when it comes to the average opinion of all the users. This is what people have been trying to tell you.

You CAN NOT define a reverb to be good or bad simply by checking how "grainy" it is. There are many classic reverbs that are grainy as hell, and would certainly NOT work for your beloved music genre, trance. However, this does NOT make them less valid as classics. I highle recommend that you stay away from Lexicon PCM 60 or PCM 70 as you might not get what you want from them. :)

Now, I suspect that IK CSR would be the perfect reverb for you and on the freeware side of things all the reverbs that are based on the freeverb algo should do just fine.
