Dunk's 8lfo in Orion Platinum2003-03-13T14:01:06+00:00My goal is to have an lfo control parameters in my pluginfx. I thot that 8lfo might be my solution but my plugs respond to "link to next controller" and I don't know jack about midi ccs. 10=volume is me extent of CCs and i dunno if that's even right .
If this can be done w/ 8lfo, u r the man dunk!!
TIA

I've just installed the Orion Platinum Demo and tried my plugs in it, but it seems that Orion does not support VST plugins sending midi...
I'm not definite about this tho' as I've just had a quick play with the demo so it might be worth asking on the Orion forums...
If it doesn't allow plugins to send midi events, then I'm afraid my midi plugs just plain won't work in Orion. sorry.
BTW - Orion has it's own automation system - have you tried that? Right click on the control/knob you want to control and select "Edit pattern events" or "edit song events" (depending on whether you want the control changes to be pattern based or song based). Then you can draw automation in the controller lane that comes up. In "edit pattern events" mode, you can right click on the controller lane and select "LFO tool" to create LFO automation on any control.
NB - if you're controlling a VST plugin (not Orion proprietary), you may have to open a pattern, open the contrller lane at the bottom and then select the parameter to automate from the list.
Nice detailed response dunk. Big ups for that! So this plug is like slicy drummer then? It threw me off b/c it was under the name VST. Too bad, this and the drum sequencer looked sweet .
As far as orion, I did know about the automation and thot it was tedious (thus me looking out for the 8lfo), but I will have to take a closer look at the lfo tool.
Is it possible to code an univeral lfo that would control anything that receives midi data? Is there anything avail that wouldthat you know of?
Either way, I know where you r now and got yer site bookmarked so I'll see what yer cooking up in the future!
cheers xtern, check out the rest of the SmartElectronix crew while you're there - some great effects for torturing audio on there
as for the lfo/midi thing, it really is down to the host more than anything -some hosts like Bidule are very flexible with audio and midi routing, but others are less so. The 8LFO plug sends the right midi data, it's just that Orion either won't accept the data from the plugin or won't send it to the necessary place.
I think you're best bit is to get to grips with Orion's own inbuilt automation - if it's the host you're using it makes sense to get to know it inside out - then you can sequence all kinds of crazy filter tweaks, effects changes etc.
I believe you have to also bring up the MIDI 'Patchbay' at the bottom of the INSERT drop down list Dunk in order to send a plug in... 'out' so to speak? I've only used MIDI IN myself, but pretty sure you can send many things OUT from Orion as well?
But yes, Orion in itself takes so much of the CC# guesswork out. Good ol' link to next controller, wiggle a wheel on my rig, and they we are!
But good point to get to know your Host. Especially if it's Hugh Hefner.
I been ditzin' around with the midi out in orion w/out much luck. Only useful thing I managed was being able to have vsts (receive from generator) i.e. midi out. But all I could manage to do was have the vsti's play the notes I laid out in the midi out. I'll see what the peeps have to say over at the orion forum. Thx 2 ya both, sry I'm so inept.
