I once asked here how this library was: http://www.bigfishaudio.com/4DCGI/detail.html?721
(Greg Adams Big Band) and someone said it was pulled off poorly with weak organization

I worked on that DVD. I thought it was logically organized. It's just put into session folders, then divided into seperate room mic and close mic folders (these 2 folders contain the same loops recorded from the different mic perspectives). then there is a third folder for solo instruments.Mr. Tunes wrote:I once asked here how this library was: http://www.bigfishaudio.com/4DCGI/detail.html?721

Now that I think about it, we probably could have given the loops more descriptive file names. there was just so much material.
I'm not sure what they meant by poorly pulled off. Greg is a world class composer/arranger. the individual musicians are fantastic as well. I thought the recording quality was excellent too.
It kind of depends exactly what you are looking for in a brass library. If you want to write your own arrangements with multi-sampled instruments, you need Garritan or something of that nature. If you want some killer, professionally written and recorded brass licks that you can use royality free, you should consider The Greg Adams Big Band Brass collection.
Shoot, we got an 8 out of 10 from Computer Music. I rarely see them give out 8's to other loop DVDs.
Here's what Future Music Said
"Among the very best horn sample collections to emerge recently has been Big Fish's Greg Adams' Big Band Brass, a massive DVD's worth of loops and one-shots that packs over 4600 big band-style loops and samples, including a huge library of short solo phrases for flugel horn, trumpet, sax and more that is worth the price of admission alone. Greg Adams is a founding member, arranger, trumpeter and composer of Tower of Power, one of the great horn brands of all time, and his expertise and experience clearly go into these loops, which are recorded with stunning fidelity by producer/engineer Stephen Sherrard. Culled in large part from Adams' own Big Band arrangements, and recorded with the Greg Adams Jazz Orchestra's 14-piece horn section, this is the absolute cream-of-the-crop: the classic big band brass vocabulary, presented in both Acidized WAV files and AppleLoop AIFF format for low-impact time-stretching. Prepare to be wowed."
All that being said, I appreciate the feedback Mr. T

I guess it's wrong of me to echo someone else's complaint without even trying the disc yet. I tend to get inconsiderate from time to time.
---
I listened to the Garritan demos and i'm not completely sold on it yet. I'm worried that i'd end up doing the same thing to those horns as I do to every other horn sample - douse it in too much delay and reverb to cover up for it being fake(even though that one doesn't sound fake per se I just get very picky). It is priced right though for a multisample Big Band library you cant get much more reasonable than that.

Steve is the brains of this outfit. I would definately be interested in some funkier loops myself. The Adams DVD is selling really well, so it might be easy to convince him to work on another project. That is a great suggestion for Steve[/img]Left Headphone wrote:@Bigg John: any plans for a funk brass licks disc?

The East Collexion Horn & Brass is superb for the price - $99. I've got more expensive horn collections, but I always seem to use this one. The demo's not so good, 'cause it uses the entire East Collexion, but you can sorta hear the horns. Trust me, they're very, very good. Tons of multisamples with a few riffs thrown in.

I wish we would have done some multi-sampled, multi-articulated patches to go with this dvd. That is a big job for 2 guys though
I'll tell you, the trick to using this library is to get really well aquainted with it. The albatross around the neck of loop based music production is loosing the muse while wadeing through endless loops. Sometimes. it instantly clicks, other times you can fish for hours and not find what you want.
I actually appreciate honest feedback. good , bad or otherwise. Dr Wu was pretty harsh I'll have to say. I found this to be a strange quote though
So is this cat ripping us off ????Good thing i took the time to really test it before not buying it!
are you with me?
Dr.Wu
That really bites !!!!!
anyway, It's getting late, i think i'll post a rebutal to that post tomorrow. I know it's months old but some of that stuff he said was unfair. He may have some valid points too. But I mainly want to find out if he's a freakin' thief or not

eeek you know I didn't even realize that Bigg John. That was quite a few months ago and I guess this aspect of his post kind of went over my head. I guess at the time I was sort of looking for any bad feedback to help me save money - the last thing I wanted was for someone to tell me it's awesome and then I would've had to bought it.But I mainly want to find out if he's a freakin' thief or not
I think I will buy it soon though cause even as few horn riffs that exist in Sampletank2 I got great milleage out of those - I could easily milk the Greg library.
