I've made it easy. I have trouble navigating their site so here's some links:

Once on the site hit the Winamp or Windows Media Player links at the bottom.

EMCRadio is now a licenced radio station

Here is where you submit songs to be played

Read about & vote for your ElecticMeme DJ

On their schedule Hangout denoted the time when KVR and The Auditorium people's music is being played, including the Music Cafe monthly contest songs

Techbot says that EMC Radio needs more submissions!
Only 180 artists thus far have submitted songs and more are needed.

Techbot wrote:Cool- I have another idea here.
I'm not one for rules for the sake of em, but where would the monthly competition be without em.

And in this case it might put a litlle structure to the project and give it a sense of identity. It might even embue it with a community spirit.

Hows about?--- Any time someone wants to contribute a tune they also have to recommend another artists tune, post the recommendation at either of the submission pages and contact the artist.

Should the artist not wish to have their tune added ( has only ever happened once), no problem but at the least the contributer made the recommendation and wrote the PM. It would create a wee bit of quality control without resorting to censorship.
Meanwhile the quality control is not down to one or a group of individuals but every participant. The radio repetoire becomes as interative as the actual playlists via requesting.
Note the request button on the lower right of the homepage.
Request a weird kvr friend's music and there's even a field so that you
can dedicate the song and send a message, such as,

"Yo! This one goes out to all my homies in Düsseldorf, right‽‽‽"

(note the all-important use of the "interrobang" punctuation)

Techbot has also pointed out that posting the name of an artist and their song here when you hear a song on EMR Radio that you like would be really helpful
Techbot wrote: This is the singular most important act that anyone can do. It has taken me this long to realise it.

I am not familiar with all the music on the station and I normally depend on BendyBones and Positivepixee to warn me of tunes that need to be remixed or remastered (by the contributer not us) before they are played again , tunes that should have their rotation policy turned down low

and tunes that we should follow up on, ie who wrote it? have they more ? Are they part of a netlabel that produces similar stuff of high standard and of course their rotation policy is turned up to high

With schedules in place, I hope that content, format and style become the main issues not technical ones. I of course will continue working to ensure the smooth running of the project from a technical side. But I can't help but feel this is where things get interesting.

You(tm) has produced two hour-long shows for EMCradio that break the mould. They are neither a disperate collection of tunes nor a single hour long epic. They are a hour long journeys into sound, with breaks and beats and funkyness and collage and ambience and drones and jokes all blended with an unmistakeble You(tm)ness.

He has promised 9 shows to the series - one a month.

No doubt- at some point we will play All 9 back to back.

Meanwhile You(tm), TotalCult from The auditorium, myself and others on the project have made radio jingles for the shows.

So we have pieces ranging from 20 secs to 1 hour written specifically for the radio. Their lenght alone should present artistic possiblilities not present in the 3 to 20 minute format that is oh so yesteryear

I'm thinking phoney commercials, poetry, audio experiments that are too short to warrant a full tune, but could easily be turned into a jingle if "Be write back" or "Don't touch that dial" were appended to them.

I'm working on the Netalbels material at present. Anybody want to suggest netlabels that would be worth checking out.

Is there musicians here, who are already signed who would be interested in having some of their labels catalog on the station. remeber we do pay royalties now.

At some point in the future we might start actively contacting labels out there. But that's for when the project looks and feels more Pro. (EMCradio Pro Ver 1.0- I like it).
Techbot or somebody made this sticky and enthused about this code here so I edited it in:
{I don't know how to code this stuff so if anyone understands why it's formatted weird with text
fighting with the EMC Radio icons feel free to post it here.}
runagate wrote:I made these html things you can put on your myspace pages if you want to link to EMC Radio if you've submitted songs to be played on there. Just edit them into your bio or somewhere

<a href="http://212.72.165.23:9066/listen.pls"><img src="http://s1.sigamp.com/users/Techbot/newsig.png" align="left"></a>

<a href="

And here's how I added a button to link to EMC Radio's request page for my songs.
Just find where your songs are on the request pages and paste your link over mine here:

<a href="http://87.192.229.248/eclecticmeme/php/ ... gate"><img src="http://www.eclecticmeme.com/images/aniw ... black2.gif" align="right"></a>

And if you want to see what this looks like (I am very, very non-web-savvy! I don't get how to format stuff yet) it's the same code on all of my band pages so lookie here and see what it's like:
MySpace URL:

http://www.myspace.com/briarmonsmetrach3

Somebody else should gimme their myspace url that uses this code as an example that I can edit
in here I don't want to subject people to my l33t html non-skillz all the time.

Post

Here the latest.

I've spent the weekend, messing with two different PHP-MySQL content management sites.

They offer enourmour potential for integrating various radio sections into the site.

THese will be way more sophisticated than the request and playlist currently on offer.

After days of frustration, I found out that the mere act of me testing them, was what was breaking everything- I knew all along my coding was correct but it simply wouldn't work.

When I stopped testing everything started working again. Sheeesh

So a friend has offered to me a long term loan of a laptop to do all my developing on, so that it doesn't affect the normal radio running.

This should mean that any future development doesn't mean the radio gets fuct, which has been the case to date.

So I am going to take the day off, finish my competition reviews and vote. And begin again tomorrow or wednsday with the new machine.

The requst feature etc are turned off at present. I will turn them back on tomorrow.

I'll still be around. I'm taking the day offf but I will still be in front of my machine. So I'll still be reading posts.

I was thinking of posting the list of KVR-Auditorium members who have contributed music so far, to this thread. So anyone interested in finding new contribs could cross-reference.

Would this be helpful??

Post

Yes, why not? :)

Seems to have been down for at least all of today - no playlist available and no station by clicking on the winamp thing. :?
I guess you're busy with it all, huh? 8)

Post

Indeed, the playlist says this:

Code: Select all

status=err
SQL error=Could not connect to MySQL server
The contributor's list is a good idea (though sounds like a lot of work).

Though the Winamp works (sporadically) for me.

Post

They say length doesn't count - so hopefully no1 will mind if i do this ...

Seriously tho I've missed alot of this thread, but please do be patient and read on :)

Yep, that'd be mighty cool.
Techbot wrote:Anybody want to suggest netlabels that would be worth checking out?
For real, theres one called AC (quirky lo-fi stuff) that i found int the EMC catalogue a while back but I don't hear much on the radio. Could be coincidence.. or it could be that there stuff is in a funny format that the playlister skips over.
I'll check format of what we've got first off and convert if necessary. Then I'll have a look for their site coz if they have anythin new it wud be well worth getting. I can help with the DLing there.

Also theres a 'netlabel-ish type thing' where a friend of mine has his music in france.
Not sure if they're quite a netlabel but they have a vibe like music cafe with people puttin up stuff for DL.
I'll contact them and see what they'd they'd be up for. Plenty of quality french hiphop and electronica up there. (that's where Rael's been leavin his music).
Now that I think of it.. how bout if they gave us a link and i translate the EMC site into french. Let me know if this is practical or useful in the meantime. Maybe it would take you mad amounts of time and resources/space to have a "see site in french" button.

ooh! ooh! me me me me me me.. SirSirSirSirSirSir :hyper:
(hehe i've secretly been waiting to use that emoticon for ages!)
 idea for a theme
"Real folk music"
Along the lines of the Alan Lomax excursions (40s i think) who had the idea 2go to remote places fairly untouched by anything outside that village and record the folk music of the people who "had no need for the word 'folk'."
I have a collection of his stuff made by his son after his death (the father's death, not the sons of course :)) which includes folks from all round the world. One of the collections is chain gang songs by actual chain gangs working and singin whhile he records and u can hear the axes choppin keepin the beat!!!
People cud submit stuf in a certain thread and maybe include a small shpeel about the quirks of the tune they're submitting - whatever they knoow about it. Somethin like that?
I have recordings from senegal of my teachers kickin up a jam over tea and old old musical prayers - beautiful!

Anybody else got ideas or am I gonna have to waffle some more hmm?

I wish I could create a telethon-like ticker that had a real-time
update of how many songs have been submitted vs. what the goal is,
like in the movie UHF.

That kind of thing can be done with rss-feeds and such like.

Does the browser you use, support live bookmarks like with Firefox. The next upgrade will implement a lot of these functions. Similar to some of the functions here at KVR. I will have the new computer tommorow and all being well, will have the basic requests and playlists up and running tomorrow night. After that each new thingy shouldn't cause the problems they do now.

At that point I will be able to return to a bit of music making again meeself.

I like the Lomax idea. I intend to research every possibility that this medium offers. I'll be on for documenting my research, if others are interested and/or do the same. I've already come across a wealth of material, but it is lost amongst a heap of bookmarks, links and emails to myself.

Tho I reckon there's a few people out there in KVR that would have way more knowledge than I. IF they was intertested in posting links to weird and wonderful audio recordings that would be cool.

These are some of my fave sites at the moment. I'll google Lomax later and see what happens.

Playlist is still whacked but Sickle's Bliss Of The Illuminated is playing so that's pretty freakin' sweet.

Also, Tim Conrady's Time Traveller I just heard is my favorite song I've ever heard of his.

Jamungullyplex's "Unknown Substance" - - thumbs up 8)

"cyriltrio" I imagine that's the artist/group
awseome drummer, no song title on my player oddly, wicked wicked drummer.

Post

Tuz - Eye Nipple Voidoid is playing right now!
Gypsyilicious! Absolutely smurftastic!!!

*edit* Robert Dunn thereisnogreaterlove is quite quiet.

I don't remember submitting any tracks to this station, but if there's a submission link where I can see what's already available of mine, I'll be glad to update my list.

There's a submission link up on top there and on the first page.
I must have assumed that SickleCell666 = Sickle here.
I am terrible at names.

Yes, please do submit a ton of songs. It's not what I would have expected but those
guys at EMC need people to submit more music. I initially didn't want to bother
their lovely, strange station with my psycho tunes but they need way, way more
psycho tunes, apparently, so if you submit some songs do em a favor and convince
a friend to submit a giant pile of songs, too.

The "request" feature on the station appears to be broken at this particular moment
but they appear to be about to overcome all their tech difficulties and the request
feature really is great - then you can bombard the station with requests for stuff
you like and it plays pretty damned soon since not a whole lot of people listen yet.
I get the impression it may move the songs that're requested to a higher rotation, too
since there's no way for TechBot who runs the station to actually listen to all the
music they have on there.

So please do, Sickle, and tell a friend to, also.

yeah don, if you didnt, do.
