But I don't get the relation between the fader level and envelope... care to enlighten me?
Envs are 0-1 and faders 0-127, no?

I simply have saved and named them according to the fader-level...pakana wrote:But I don't get the relation between the fader level and envelope... care to enlighten me?

I made a skin similar to elemental very simple but with more variations on the colors...
i could maybe do some more color scheme with this one...

the boredom of school holidays has already set in ... no idea how 'pro' it is (and have probably broken a few of my own 'rules' posted in the pro skin thread) but ive had the paints out ...

greenVOID
... another dark one (even though it seems to be only me that likes them like that) ... wasnt intended as an XBOX skin but it kind of went that way ... many thanks to branis for the workspace icons (from his blackfire skin) ... might do some other colourways when i get back from edinburgh this week if theyre wanted ...

skädäm! Man you got balls to nag at about subtlety
j/k (although the brightness is almost blinding), I think it's fresh. Cool that you made a skin, too. You want a full review?

The bright colours and strong contrast make it somehow refreshing. Could be tiring after long sessions, but that bright green sure is vitalizing (prolly a psychohistoric thing).
So (besides disrespecting most of the good design practises you have brought to our attention
1. The horz. fader backgrounds don't stretch (see a GUIless plugin)
2. Lit buttons aren't readable... at all
3. Some buttons are round, some rectangle (I'm fully aware that I might be the only person who is disturbed by this sort of thing
4. bitmaps are very pixelated/jagged, but that might be intentional and even fit this skin (same as above)
5. some scrollbar buttons are exported on wrong background? nasty fringing in corners.
6. the bg gradient is IMO too steep, and you get the edge fringing problem with icons in the lower light area
7. scrollbar thumbs have different line widths
8. the white end of the gradients is quite bright enougs to lit my room on a TFT!
9. active window bar bitmap shows a funny line in the right end with wide windows.
The sequencer grid is super, and the use of alpha in text boxes works really well. Nice, glassy feeling!

oops ... this being the first 'proper' eXT skin ive done (ie - not a 'remix' of someone elses) id not even considered that TBH ... that and the fact that i dont use any GUIless plugins so wouldnt even think to test it ... FIXEDpakana wrote:1. The horz. fader backgrounds don't stretch (see a GUIless plugin)
yeah ... i dont mind myself as long as the unlit state is OK but its something i might play with ...pakana wrote:2. Lit buttons aren't readable... at all
quite deliberate ... i dont really like all the buttons to be round or square-cornered the same ... ive tried to keep a visual distinction between 'menu' buttons (square) and function / control buttons (MOSTLY rounded) ...pakana wrote:3. Some buttons are round, some rectangle (I'm fully aware that I might be the only person who is disturbed by this sort of thing)
theyre just as i drew them ... just had a play and i could smooth them off a bit if i feel so inclined but itll have to wait until the weekend when i get back from a trip to edinburgh (flying up tomorrow morning) ...pakana wrote:4. bitmaps are very pixelated/jagged, but that might be intentional and even fit this skin (same as above)
not ENTIRELY sure what youre seeing there ... but ive tidied those buttons up a bit now anyway ...pakana wrote:5. some scrollbar buttons are exported on wrong background? nasty fringing in corners.
again ... not ENTIRELY sure about the fringing youre describing but agree the edges of the main workspace icons could do with a little tidying up ... another job for after my little holiday ...pakana wrote:6. the bg gradient is IMO too steep, and you get the edge fringing problem with icons in the lower light area
absolutely right ... FIXEDpakana wrote:7. scrollbar thumbs have different line widths
heehee ... thats one of those taste things i guess ...pakana wrote:8. the white end of the gradients is quite bright enougs to lit my room on a TFT!
a little light horizontal line ??? if so yeah ... a glitch crept in somewhere ... good eyes !!! ... FIXEDpakana wrote:9. active window bar bitmap shows a funny line in the right end with wide windows.
cheers !!!pakana wrote:The sequencer grid is super, and the use of alpha in text boxes works really well. Nice, glassy feeling!

I liked the green one better, that blue makes me sleepy!
I did some tinkering with my skin, too. With thanks to Bones, Caco, pHz, visa tapani and others, I think I'm making slow progress in my quest for a professional looking skin. This is probably not as toned down as some might like, but at least the hierarchy makes more sense. I also tried to improve the separation of main window items.
As always, detailed critique is more than welcome.
