Hi Squids,
Squids wrote:... and as always I take requests!!! Seriously, if anyone wants to pull a short clip of any classical or film scores that have a certain percussion lick (or even sound effect because we're working on that too with a new SR sound fx team) and point us to it then we might just go out and capture something like it!
PM'ed you on that.

mlyon wrote:BTW, Squids, can you explain how the Emerson SPF is set up? Is it all riffs, or are there comping loops or LH bass lines in there as well? I assume it is stereo only (doubt there'd be any need for mult-track on that one). Do you have him on B-3 as well as his Moog? I'm not a fan of keyboard loop sets (since that's one thing I can generally do myself),but, for Keith, I might make an exception.

Curious minds want to know....;)

Just a bump for something that may have got lost in the Musikmesse time frame.

Well, it seems there's a KVF bug. Every 2nd refresh "kvraudio.com is currently unavailable", I suspect my PM-function is broken down, submitted posts seem to diffuse away somewhere in the big atlantic cable (they should check the shielding....).

Squids, I have collected some percussion snippets (8MB mp3). I tried to cut prominent sections and hope they're useful (but be aware: eletronic stuff!). If you're interested where can I put them?

cheers,

PS: How's he weather in Italy? Finally, spring has knocked on the doors over here
:) :) :)

Oh, sorry I missed this one. By the way, Italy weather was pretty nice! The food was amazing as well. I visited the Ferrari museum too and have all kinds of pictures. I went to England and visited the studio of the band Genesis too. I have to check to see if I can post pictures of that or not. It was a great trip. I got to meet Tony Banks who I am a big fan of.

Anyway, speaking of keyboard players, let's talk about Keith! Actually, there isn't much to say just yet. But, we are doing a library with him and it includes not only his Modular Moog and B3 (playable notes and his playing riffs) but also his very rare Yamaha GX-1. I really shouldn't be spilling the beans on it just yet but... what the heck. It's awesome!!!! He'll also be involved in yet ANOTHER product but.... I REALLY should keep my mouth shut. Some things are meant to be surprises. I don't want to run out of them. However, I thought he'd look nice on the T-shirt.

There's a few other people that no one noticed are on there. One is Jason Scheff who is a good friend of mine and a brilliant musician. He's best known as Peter Cetera's replacement in the band Chicago because he sings lead and plays bass. However, in that context you can't really hear what an amazing bass player he is. He is a BAMF. His dad is also a bass player and played on some LEGENDARY records with Elvis (actually both Elvi) as well as the bass on The Doors' LA Woman. (must be nice when someone in your family has played on some legendary records eh? You know who you are ;) ).

Anyway, in the spirit of spilling the beans, we have a ProFile planned with Jason, Tim Pierce and the drummer from Bruce Hornsby's The Range who is also incredible. All three are and it will be kind of a fusion thing. We'll see. Jason was all psyched about doing it and so was Ross Hogarth who is engineering Ziggy Marley right now. He's going to do a bunch of ProFiles (hey, maybe even a Reggae one! ;) You never know. We'll do one eventually.). I also have a session planned with some of the members of Earth, Wind & Fire too... don't worry. We'll cover it all!

(good thing I am the boss and no one can yell at me for bean spilling... however, I like to keep up the excitment up on this series. It is really hot!).

I thought you were going to go into that "beans, beans good for you heart, the more you eat..." song. ;)

LOL

Beans Beans, that musical fruit,
The more you eat, the more you toot,
The more you toot, the better you feel,
So eat your beans at every meal.

Just slight variation. :P

No problems. I could tell you were quite busy over the last weeks from some of your other posts.

I'm sure that was amazing. Everything I've read would seem to indicate that he's a great guy...not to mention one of the best keyboard players in rock.

Yep, finding his name on the shirt was definitely a surprise. That sounds very cool. You have me intrigued. I'll look forward to more info on this one as you get closer and start spilling more beans.

Lucky for us, you can't seem to keep those beans in the crock. They just keep spillin' and spillin' and spillin'.... ;)

I have been trying out the bonus RAW loops. They sound good to me.

On the SP SE DVD they are 16 bit, 44.1 or 48 kHz. Will this be the same on the RAW DVDs or will they be 24 bit?

And, Squids, do you have a release date in mind yet?

Post

I have been exploring the Stereo Master Edition (SME) folders and there are some differences when comparing them with the Multi-Track Loops (MTL) & Demo Sessions folders. I realise that the SME content was added at a later stage, so I do not know whether these differences are intended or not.
Looking at the SME folders:
  • as Squids said there are several additional artists and genres, that are not in the MTL and the Mtown and Rhythm&Soul folders have several extra samples
  • the Big Band content does not match the MTL content
  • for Bill Bruford and Bun E Carlos, there are no wave files at all (only .rx2 and .aiff)
  • for Steve Gadd, some of the wave files are not there (all the ones with UPPER CASE names)
{EDIT} Hope these will make it onto the SP SE "Updates" disc

Finally, in the Special Edition Drum Kit (for Kontakt), can someone tell me what the suffix "_EW" means on some of the samples, for example: TSC10TmCnSnV2_EW.wav (I've got what the others mean).

They'll be 24 bit and the release is looking like some time next month (crossing fingers).

I think it means that it was a set of Earthworks mics.
