my friend just got a dual core AMD 4400 -- I was wondering what hosts are compatibile (i.e. make use of both cores -- in some way or the other) --
I know FLstudio has seperate threads for the GUI and the engine, and will also have one for disk streaming in the future -- but what about other programs? and how does it work (just distributes CPU evenly, puts VST effects on one thread and audio tracks on another, etc.) Im wondering what host I should migrate to, if I need to move at all.

Reaper, at http://www.cockos.com/reaper/index.php advertises as being SMP capable. Afraid I don't know any more details about it, though. Y'all might want to try loading it and see what happens.....

Sonar 5, Cubase SX, Nuendo for sure do. They don't 'split evenly' though, its each instance of a plugin goes to a different core. (IE one instance of z3ta+ will be on one core. Load in another instance, it's on the other core, without any work from you.)

Music Creator 3 (29€ for the downloadable version) uses both core of my AMD X2 3800+.
And is impressive for the price by the way...

i believe energyXT has multiple core support. it can also be run as a plugin in another host giving multiple core support to its host.

The only problem I have noticed with EXT (and others have reported it too), is that assigning a plugin to the second core can result in sync being lost over time, especially when looping. Apparently, the way dual core is handled has been changed in XT2, so it will hopefully be much better...inkinen wrote:i believe energyXT has multiple core support. it can also be run as a plugin in another host giving multiple core support to its host.

ctually, I tested samplitude and FL and although samp works better at it, they both spread out processing over both cpus.
