I was going to answer a question there, but then wasn't sure if there was one.

Amazing how the GenX/Billy Idol/sigue sigue sputnik nexus really only ever had one bag of tricks to share between them.
who was the guy behind sigue sigue sputnik? was it a guy from a previously known band, or was it a scam from a manager or record lable? i can't remember...was it an attempt at a media attack of some sort, ie like the pistols? i know little of it, they were virtually unknown in the states...

is that easier/more dry/less "cheeky"? do you think you can answer the question now?

EDIT: f**k i'm sorry, i swear i'm not trying to be a dick, just comes natuarlly.... :D

So it was a question then.

Well, you have all the pieces: Tony James was the guy behind SSS, was the bassist from Generation X. I think he was in Sisters of Mercy for a spell. Billy Idol was also from Generation X (built his solo career on redoing GenX songs really). The other GenX guy was in some other band, might have been in the Clash at some point, can't remember since he was the other guy.

Really? not in California. They had one very minor hit on the "new wave" radio station then thankfully were never heard from again.

that's the genius part. I saw Tony James play with the Sisters of Mercy. confirmed.

First of all, at least a couple of the videos in the initial post by dystonia_ek aren't that obscure because someone posted links to them just a few months ago... :P  (edit: it might have even been dystonia_ek, now that I think about it...)

At any rate, here's a couple of things I found over the weekend...

One of my favorite tracks by Togawa Jun - my absolute favorite female vocalist:

And here's a TV commercial she did:

Somehow it's simultaneously not surprising and completely baffling that a toilet manufacturer would want to use her as a spokesperson! :-o :!:

Yag-- must be an acquired taste. ;) Sounds like an amateur high-school girl singing!

That's her schtick; she was like a parody of the average J-pop "idol singer" back in the 80's... I'll admit that her singing is fairly inconsistent from track to track but I dig the music (even when it's a really cheesy pop-song like that one) and she at least has personality and presence... even if it is a little cuckoo!

Oh yeah, my Japanese is terrible but I believe that slogan she says at the end of TV commercial is something to the effect of "If you take a crap, you'll want to wash your ass!" :o  :o

Can playing Paperhouse!

OOI, is there anyway to actually store any of this footage? I has ADSL at work, but only dialup at home, and would love to be able to see it when not broadcasting to the whole office (I'm dead centre in an open plan office!).

I mean, I can't really take 20+ minutes to watch the complete 1973 'Suppers Ready' footage in the middle of a working day, and 56k just won't do it smoooothly!

Any ideas?

Duncan, I usually just fish the FLV files out of my browser's cache... actually they don't have an extension while in the cache but I can tell by the size of the file and then just stick on the .flv extension and play them on whatever media player accepts Flash video files... VLC always works great...

You can use http://keepvid.com/ to download the FLV video. Then you'll need an FLV player to watch the video on your computer. FLV Player and VLC Media Player are two for Windows but I prefer Media Player Classic.
