Samplitude 8 SE needs an internet connection on the computer on which it is to be installed.
Got the info from phone support.
This is unbelievable, I can only advise everybody who hasn't already bought the Keys magazine or, worse, the download version, to think twice before putting down the cash. I certainly won't support this kind of BS, and I won't be the only one. None of the audio people I know, pros or amateurs, can afford to have an internet connection on their DAW, they have to rely on their machines.
Furious, susiwong
Thanks for the info.
I have the same problem. I will never connect my DAW to internet, so it's waste of money for me.

thats why i didnt buy it. i knew there was a catch but didnt know what. samplitude knew full well that many people didnt have internet connections and didnt speak german either. but they knew if they informed people about the flaws in the daw, sales would be less then satisfactory so they kept everybody in the dark, and instead of going about it the moral way which would be to inform potential users about samplitudes shortcomings they decided to betray there customers choosing sales over service.

very shady :?

i have no problem connecting my "DAW" to the Internet for such a bargain. I agree they could have done in an other way but...

But talking about betrayal in this context and complaining about it just being german or sth. is a little off, imo. keys is sold in germany etc. so it was prolly aimed at a german-speaking audience to start with.

and i think everybody was able to inform themselves either here or writing to the makers of the program or keys before hand.

i mean: do i (from germany myself) go freaky  because CM has Muzys on it which isn't perfect and AFAIK english only - no, because i understand in which countries it's supposed to be sold and i think offering the daw is a bonus to the mag.

WHY!? WHY WHY WHY WHY DO YOU DUMBASS PEOPLE NOT CONNECT YOUR DAWS TO THE NET!?

Don't say viruses. If you follow a few SIMPLE guidelines you'll never have to worry about those. Its just absolutely 100% stupid.

(1) don't use IE, use firefox or opera instead
(2) don't use outlook express, use webmail instead, and if you can't, outlook or thunderbird
(3) tell it to automatically update (assuming its windows xp)
(4) don't use kazaa or something
(5) ...common sense.

What a crazy world when limitations such as this are put on the usage of free software :P

JavaScript is turned on in my browser, and ActiveX is an IE only thing which I don't use.

Oh, and I browse pr0n and warez ALL the time. Like, twice a day at least. ;)

This is pure conjecture.

There has never been one shred of proof that Samplitude knew (let alone knew full well) that not everyone spoke German.

The idea that they would give away something for free in their native land in a native magazine and in their native tongue is a little far fetched don't you think. I mean it borders on conspiracy theory and perhaps paranoia.

Warning, Warning Dr Robinsion - cannot connect to internet.

Anyway what is the big deal about samplitude anyway, they just can't seem to get the sequencer side together, thats a big price difference from the music studio series to samplitude.
