Best host for audio editing?

Ive ben a Cubase user for a long while and while Ive been fairly happy with it, I cant say Im an accomplished audio editor with it. Ive used an old version of Sound Forge for my editing duties and have been quite happy for a while, but now Im running into problems with my workflow switching between the two. Say I want to do a remix and import an accapella in Cubase, but to find the orignal tempo, I import the orignal track as well. Using the Audio tempo tool is a nightmare. Its INCREDIBLY difficult and counter-intuitive, but this wasnt a problem since I would just shut Cubase down, open SF, imprt the track Im messing with and then find the tempo. But the amount of times i have to do this is killing me.. I lose my original focus and cant keep my mind on duties at hand. I have an old copy of Acid laying around and i hear it good for this as well but I dont really do much with loops, and i would think Id have this difficulty again because Id have to build the track in cubase then import the acidized accapella.. grr.. is there another host that has decent editing capabilities, or does Acid 6 act more like a proper Virtual Studio and less like the loop-happy track builder I remember? Does anyone know a better way to find accapella tempos? HELppppp JOHNYYyyyy.. I have a lil side project coming up and i need to really impress!

Which version are you using? When I have to find a tempo for source material I usually find the first downbeat of the track, move the left and right locators to cover one measure and then use the tempo warp (or whatever it's called. Still working on my coffee, brain not awake yet...)to find the next downbeat. This will move the tempo where it needs to be.
If you wanna switch hosts, try Ableton Live. It does literally all of that for you and it's really, really easy to use.

Use Acid it has a beat wizard, that detects the tempo...
Pro Tools has it but if your willing to upgrade your system by a lot... Cool Edit might have one i dont use it for that..

yes SX3, and I cant see how you dont see how it sucks! One huge factor that SFG has above CubSX3: A "grid" of sorts that makes loop defining (and increases tempo-finding accuracy exponentially) a breeze. Cubase you have to find the loop points, which is easy in 'perfect', i.e. drum hits only, material, but when Im trying to find the loop in this track which a full on finished and compressed deal (Im making a bootleg for an upcomin gig, and I want to wow the crowd), its damn near impossible. I found the tempo in SF in a matter of seconds. In cubase I spent roughly 30 minutes before i gav up. And now Im trying to line up the accapella with the original audio material, so i can get perfect sync, and that has been totally less than spectacular. I admit Im not so good at doing vocals, I am a music only guy, but Ive had no problems working wih vocal on other sequencers (specifically Logic) and Im very familiar with Cubases ins and outs, this juts has been a nightmare, and I feel as if there has to be a better soultion, other than waiting for SX 4.olepro wrote:It can't be cubase sx3 you are using then....there's great audio editing tools in that one !

if you just need loop editing: have a look a www.beatcreator.com. to me audition (formerly cool edit) is the best general audio editor. unfortunately, adobe has introduced challenge/response copy protection to the last release. samplitude is also great but again it has ch/res /which I hate).

The issue isnt one of a better app to edit audio, its to find a better app to do both, audio editing and virtual studio. I cant stand switching between the two, I bought Cubase because it seemed to be the perfect amalgamation of both. At least thats what Steiny touts on the website. A few hunerd bucks on software that doesnt do somthin well.. I now just hate looikng at it. Then again, I might be stupid and am doing something wrong, if anyone has a better way to get an accapella to sync up in SX3 please let me know. I havent done much with full on vocals, just snippets here and there, so its just a difficult process for me, and itgs extremely frustrating.AKJ wrote:if you just need loop editing: have a look a www.beatcreator.com. to me audition (formerly cool edit) is the best general audio editor. unfortunately, adobe has introduced challenge/response copy protection to the last release. samplitude is also great but again it has ch/res /which I hate).

The problem im having is when i find the downbeat the second down beat is covered with ambience and I cant get an exact timing. The tempo changes each time I find a 'perfect' loop, and ultimately I cant make the accapella lock on. Then when i use the warp audio, for the accapella, it gets even crazier as i wind up having to warp, bounce, warp, bounce, and after all this my shit winds being so screwed. I KNOW the acca is perfect timed, I can get it to sync up with the original perfect. Its just Cubase isnt working too smoothly. I also get weird scrolling artifacts when I zoom in and it musses the waveform a bit. My system is quite decent and I know my way round computers, Im sure the prblem resides in my disagreenment with cubase. Im just not flowing the way cubase flows. I really dont wann get rid of it though, cause Ive made some 150 unfinished tracks on there, and theyre in native format, so Im gonna have to buy another piece o software or just deal with this one.
