My interest isn't so much for scoring purposes, but I actually find a notated staff view much easier to follow/use than piano rolls. Personally, I find piano rolls fairly unpleasant to work with. If I decide to get a host for more detailed MIDI sequencing (since I don't do much in the way of MIDI sequencing these days) just looking what my options are.
I'd be inclined towards Sonar or one of its cut down forms, since I know how it works (used older versions of Cakewalk fairly extensively), but good to know alternatives.
