i'm using tracktion and have ex-t, too. ex-t of course doesn't even do time signature changes, and though tracktion does them, it doesnt allow for easy manipulation of frequent changes, for example, 3 bars of 4/4 followed by a bar of 7/8 repeated over and over. i'm not really looking to buy a new host, but i'm just curious: what host is good for odd/complex time signature stuff?

FL Studio has (though I'm sure most people don't use it)
a time-sig window at the upper-left corner of every pattern.

Just scroll it up to any number from 1 to 64. It's great - I love it.

In the song-arrange window you can't easily "paint" the uneven time
pattens, though, you have to set the "snap" to off and pan in really close
to make sure there's no small spaces between your patterns. A tad annoying
but aside from taking extra time the ability to make flawless odd-time
compositions is invaluable.

That doesnt control the time signature. just the measure length.

But in the project settings you can change the time sig to any ever thought of, and in the Piano roll you can lock the grid to any sig as well.

Cubase has Tempo Track. Excellent Time signature and tempo changes automation with Graph.
Tools are tools, they don't produce anything...

eXT as well. It's a pretty new feature so not well known.
Basically you send an envelope track to "Tempo and meter" and then you have the freedom to add any number of envelope clips with tempo (use high-res mode) and time signature settings.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Tracktion will eventually allow for copying and pasting tempos, and multi-selecting/moving...

A large part of the reason that I switched to Tracktion is that it had the easiest tempo change control out of all the hosts I tried, including Nuendo/Cubase and Sonar...

The way I do this in tracktion is I make the time sig 15/8 (8/8 = 4/4, so 8/8 + 7/8 = 15/8 ). Then I lay down a quick kick drum to get the accents right...

Of course this works as long as the tempo (bpm) doesn't change within that section. When it gets really hairy (I record prog rock, so some of it gets absurd) then I just resort to 1/4 or 1/8 when I need lots of flexibility...

er... this would be a bar of 4/4 and a bar of 7/8, not 3 bars of 4/4 and a bar of 7/8. but that's just an example...

yes, yes, this is really what i'm hoping for.

 yeah, real skillful math on my part! More like 31/8...

eXT has time sig support in the latest beta.

Add an envelope track.
Right click the track and point to "Tempo/Meter"
Now you can add clips (say a 4/4 clip stretched over 3 bars and then a 7/8 clip for one bar).
Select them and duplicate them as many times as you wish.

I'm very intrigued by this. Can it do a ramped tampo?

Probably very simple, but how?

tempo can be automated, so any ramp/curve you want...

Very interesting! is the latest beta available as a demo? I'd love to try this out...
