Btw, the samples did not impress me either. I have the feeling that AT2 is one of these apps that feels and plays great, but just sits badly in a mix.

I'm not guitarist and no expert at all but I've tried pretty much every amp sim out there and nothing comes even close this AT2. It sounds awesome!
Quite like some of those, having a very nicely played riff of course helps :P
Good job TeleJuan and Sindhi.

I still think this sounds more convincing as far as how the "tubeness" is being perceived. Listen to how the attack cleans up toward the end. That's how it should react to dynamics on a real amp, imo.

It's just Green Machine II and compression using an Ibanez baritone axe with stock PAF clone pickups. But I think I should have used a newer pick because that one adds just a little too much scratch in there.

I'm kind of on a clean sound quest these days anyway, so an AT2 purchase is down the road for me if at all. I probably only need 4 or 5 sounds and I'm set for life. I'm pretty happy with Green Machine II, GSuite, and Similanalog for the moment, but I feel certain that AT2 is probably more versatile in the long run (but maybe more of a CPU hog than is realistic for my kind of projects).

I always found Green Machine II to be excellent on high gain sounds.

Like the B4.

I'm afraid I have to agree.

Unfortunately.

THUS FAR...

Yeah, I think it does pretty well on clean sounds too. The trick is to use both gain stages with very little gain in each of them. And compression going into the amp and compression again toward the end of the chain. I still have a lot of experimenting to do.

Shane, why don't you just use a pedal compressor?

I do sometimes but haven't really done much recording because I'm always too busy composing. I tend to jam a lot and write a lot on guitar but these past few years have been about learning how to use a softstudio. I've kind of reached a comfort zone there now and want to start playing more. So...

I have a GT-8 that I'm using as a proxy direct box at the moment (planning on buying a small dedicated d.i. box soon) and sometimes I use dry + compression going out of that into my Mackie which then goes to my computer. Then that signal hits the amp sim + effects + another compressor. On clean sounds, I've sometimes had another compressor before the amp.

Would a pedal compressor sound better than a Voxengo Marquis? I used to have two RNC1773's for guitar but sold them both. Those were nice and not too expensive.

Dunno, I'd have to A/B em, but I'm using a vintage BOSS optical compressor and it's shweeet.

I'll look into it as well. It definitely can't hurt to tame the dry signal a bit and gain some headroom on the way into the computer. Right now I'm trying to get all my projects where they save completely in FLS. So it's important for me to capture the dry performance and reamp at will (and be able to change things as I obtain better VSTs). A pedal would screw with that a bit, but not too bad as I'm sure I probably couldn't tell the difference between a comp setting that I dialed in one day and one I dial in a month later as long as the gain level is the same (thinking in terms of how to keep a project's recording consistent with itself).

I just did a quick A/B between them and they're both good. Of course, the Voxengo's gonna be more diverse, but the pedal's still kick ass. I liked both results pretty much, it's just a matter prefference. For me, having that out of the way while recording and not fussing with it later is one less thing to worry about when tracking/mixing, but this is guitar/bass only we're talking here..

Who the HELL is SINDHI ?????" :x

These samples would sound very nice with some proper EQ. Thats all they need really.
