I don't know if this one has been discussed much but I had to put up a new post anyway. I have just tried this beauty and.........
It beats all the other amp sims I have tried, commercial or not and it beats the pants of my UAD-1 Nigel sim (never sounds right). With this one the sound is smooth and seems right. I find that I play more and tweek the controls less to get an authentic tone. :D
Although I must add that the others are still good in there own way/sound, but 'eck this ones free!

it's really a dirty bastard plug-in, and I love the wah.
can't wait for the new version!

Be sure and try the Fender Twin emulation from Simulanalog as well. Put their Tube Screamer first in the chain with fairly low gain and then the amp. It's quite nice, too.

yeah, I love the twin emulation in simanalog- never cared much for the marshall one- reflects my taste in real life guitar amps anyway.

I will give this Free Amp a try.

FreeAmp wouldn't work for me the first few times I tried it, I think it was too heavy on the CPU for my older lappy at 96K. I just tried it at 44.1K and yeah, this thing rocks! Here I thought I was too old for high gain! The bluesey OD tones work great too! :o

I still prefer the SimulAnalog stuff for cleaner sounds (I like the JCM900 on the clean chanel better than the twin for some reason even though I'm a huge Fender fan - the SimulAnalog twin comes off kind of flat with my guitar). Hopefully FreeAmpSE 1.5 ( http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=128166 ) will be THE all-in-one solution I've been looking for!

Another thing that was amzing that it wasn't always free but now it is, just like a few others here.

The Tube Screamer and JCM together work pretty damn good together..
