Ok, so nobody sent me any unprocessed guitar riffs so I did something with bass, which I do have some riffs myself. I know it's probably not what you wanna hear, but it's all I got for now.

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemus ... dID=519319

These are the presets:

1. Unprocessed
2. Bass 1
3. Bass 2
4. Bass Funklift
5. Bass Fuzz
6. Bass Think 1
7. Phat Bass

Some more demos guys! Andrew sent me two OGG files but they were quite noisy when imported into my Sonar so I could only use part of one of them. Thanks for the files Andrew! I used presets from the VIP/Signature menus this time.

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemus ... dID=519319

1. Unprocessed
2. Heavy Riffage
3. Heavy Crunch
4. Hi Fuzz
5. Morbid Frost
6. Crunchy Lead
7. Lenny

Now, if someone sent me something that's not metal, that'd be great... I'd like to show all kind of sounds here.

The Tool riff I sent you sounds good on all of them, and it doesn't sound too fizzy or anything of the sort to me.

yeah, I had to edit the beginning and the end of it 'cause I got weird noises, though. But it must be me, I never used OGG files before and I must be missing something... Thanks for the riffs! The demos sound quite good, IMO

Not impressed. Think I will stick to my GNX3000...

Here is a DI take of some riff that was posted in this forum some time ago (I played it a minor 3rd above though, standard tuning), which is effective to show basic tone character I think:

It would be cool if someone who knows about metal could send it through AT2, and apply some EQ (of course) afterwards...

This is what a friend of mine and I did with Guitar Rig 2:

http://s54.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=07TK ... U7QYP8PYC0

w/Mezone: http://www.filegone.com/1f0n or
http://s54.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2CIC ... K7VK9NT3ZY

w/TransAmp: http://www.filegone.com/vgg1 or
http://s54.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0DQ2 ... E15JJIBPK6

and finally through the old WarpVST:

http://s54.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3K9S ... IPX5I6XZL8

We plan to do some more with other styles, since metal isn't our stuff.

You can also grab the DI file and send it through whatever you want and post the result, it will be interesting to compare!!! :)

Post

Thanks Melodioso (Italian?). This is great. It would be very interesting to hear some comparisons of DI files through things like the Pod, GR2 and AT2. I mean, even if the settings are different or whatever you can still hear some of the differences. I was talking to someone who is into Metal about some comments made in the other thread about how some were saying that the Pod XT was able to do High Gain sounds but AT2 was not. This really isn't true. So, he said "Squids, you should ask them to post the DI files they used in the Pod XT demo and I'll put it through AT2 to show it can do High Gain just as good or better than the Pod". So, I will see if I can pass some of these DI tracks (if they are at least considered good by you guys) on to him so he can run it through and I will post the results. I would do it myself but I am not a high gain expert really (I am more into the bluesy and classic rock tones AT2 can get... more 60's & 70's retro kind of vibe for my personal tastes).

Cheers.

Here's a thought though..

People are trying AT2 on a computer right? Maybe they should try an actual amp, like you would do with a PodXT or a VAMP2 or something. I know when I plug into my computer, I just don't feel the guitar enough for me to get a good take, I have to have my amp to monitor the sound.

The physical way in which we listen to stuff can be detrimental to the mental way in which we percieve it. AT2 to me sounds good, but I can imagine I would have a better idea by plugging it into a clean channel on an amp and road testing it from there - without stereo monitors.

Hey Squids, I finally had a chance to play with AT2 starting Friday night and all day today. While it is "ok", I'm not all convinced either.

First, maybe clear something up for me. All the amp models default to 7-8 ish volume. If I ran my twin at 8 I'd bust out my windows. Basically the amps only work from around 7ish to 10, anything less is goofey. I'm driving through an old pre that I have, so the signal is pretty much crystal clear and level maximized going into my Delta 1010.

So my question is, how do I treat the amps if I have to run them at levels I would never approach in RL. How is that a sim? I'm probably missing something completely obvious, so I'm hoping you can talk some sense into me.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer
