Stardust!!

the compressor not the tune :D

depending on the soft you are using but the best tool I've used to get it is FL peak controler....very acurate and simple to use.
If you don't use FL go for some voxengo stuff (Marquis looks excellent) or similar tools.

snooky is right.
a second vote here for stardust. definitely give it a try :-)

Stardust indeed. There was that other thingamajig that emulated the typical processing material goes thru before being aired on radio, can't recall its name. That'd be even better if parameter tweaking didn't equal editing a text file.

There's something lurking out there, getting released in the near future, that's also rather excellent for the task. You wouldn't necessary know from its name it can do such things though... :)

I don't have an answer for you, but are you saying that Daft Punk used an Alesis 3630 compressor on One More Time? That has got to be the worst sounding compressor ever made! And I should know, I have one sitting right here... although I'm almost ashamed to admit it!
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

Will try that stardust, looks like a nice tool!
And daft punk as far as I know really used alesis for the pumping effect, don't know if it was on One More Time though.

I get headaches when I hear this stuff. Daft Punk sounds like good ideas rendered to shyte (to me). Why would one want to have the base drum puke over everything?!? It's just, you know, I don't know...

It sounds cool sometimes I think. Its like energy, not from the music but from the noise, the sound. A Melded overload of gum-thwacking bumpn' mix-moving kicks. Its just an effect to sound, leaving the realm of accepted techniques, until it becomes accepted in commercial music. Taste?

Hah yeah but they're pretty good if you want to get a few for an analog studio setup where you need many compressor inserts for cheap.

probably the best compressor i have found on the pc is elemental audio neodynium... you can get any sound out of this one with an extremely easy interface. the sound is great too!

I've heard in quite a few places that they used the 3630. I've seen a few in some studios I visited with a friend and thought it was kind of strange that someone would have gear that cost 3 to 5k next to a 99.00 alesis compressor.

Then I was reading TapeOp, and I found this:

http://www.blacklionaudio.com/alesis_3630_mod.html

Everyone I talked to said that it really made a difference, so I took a shot and tried it. It kicks ass.
What sound do dreams make when they die?
