Hi

Is this clip's right side close enough (sound/character wise) to it's left side.

What do you think ?

For the [EDIT(WAS LEFT)] RIGHT [/EDIT] side I used a gate to eliminate hum and i probably set a little bit too much gain then i matched EQ with Adobe Audition's parametric EQ.

Original DI and Soldano clips were posted by Guitarjeff in this thread.

For those who don't know what equipment is this about:

Soldano SLO $2K
Marshall 4x12 avg $350
SM 57 $50

So this is $2400 vs $0.

I wouldn't know for sure that one was a sim.

Before I looked to see which side was the real soldano, I compared - I like the right side better!

After the number of votes reach 10 or more - i'll reveal the signal chain - you will be very surprised :hihi:

I actually like the real (left) side better, but i'm not a "medium gain" expert so my opinion doesn't matter much.

But the question is not which side do you like better, it's what do you think about the quality of my attempt at emulation.

Sounds pretty damn close.
It's just that I don't like the Soldano sound either...
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

I liked both. Maybe the right side is more appealing to me because it's EQ is slightly duller. Hard to say. But mixed together they sound really good.

So are you going to tell us or what?

So the left channel is much, much bassier than the right. One of things people were saying in the Amplitube 2 demo thread was that none of the examples would sit well in a mix. I guess the extra bass response is a big part of the issue with software amp sims.

If you look at each channel with a spectrum analyzer, you'll see that the bass response in the left channel is a pretty smooth curve, but in the right, the curve is more erratic.

I think it sounds really good. Sounds like the same amp but double tracked to me.

:? :?:
Adobe Audition's frequency analyzer set to 65536 & Blackmann-Harris shows that the bulk of bass difference is very close or below the human hearing range.

I may not remember correctly because i did the clip more than 4 month ago, but i think that i used fft filter to remove those low and IMO unnecessary frequencies.

Imagine what would happen with all that subsonic rumble x 2 or 4 in the mix stage.
