Is Boogex's IR engine zero latency ?guitarzan wrote:Or Boogex or Revolverb.

Well, I don't know if it's zero latency (not sure of the technicalities of that term), but it's realtime. Some IRs need to be edited down in size or there is a slight delay. Most work fine with no noticable latency, though.

Revolverb doesn't like AMD processors. It works but you get some shitty waterfall error.

The one called Convolver is also realtime, but I can't ever get the file browser to work right so I haven't even tried it. It's free, though.
Boogex is a custom fit for guitar amp/cab/speaker/mic IRs though - and it is free too!

I have a Soldano 50watt custom modded head (you can write them and send them the head and they'll do it all). This was the original amp designed for high gain in the preamp stage , which they started making in the mid/late 80s after the explosion of the overdriven brown sound became all the rage, and guitarists seeked an amp that would offer loads of gain and distortion without pedals. My mod has a pedal switch input instead of the 2 hi/low inputs, to switch from clean to dirty, as well two small toggle switches on the amp. One toggle switches between a clean tone and a crunch/overdrive for the clean channel only. The other toggle switch can change the tone voicing from a "Vintage" sound to a "Modern" sound. Plus there is double stacked pre-gain knob that controls gain for the clean and dirty channels individually. Soldanos were not meant for lush clean tones, get a Fender Twin or Roland JC or something with lots of headroom, if your lookin for that. However, this mod I have can get me anything from subtle overdriven cleans, nice crucnchy overdrive, to the dirtiest high gain distortion sounds with tons of harmonics. Apparently Mesa Boogie wasn't around yet when Soldano started, but they based thier Rectifiers off the Soldano sound. It also carries a very bright trebley sounding character to its tone, and cuts through a mix very well. Not the amp for sloppy players, as it accents every picking nuance very well.
I could tell right away that the Left side was definitely the real Soldano, and the right sounding a little muddy in bass and dull in the highs. All in all a nice mix though, would have thought it was all mic'd.
I got my head and Soldano 2x12 cab (with Vintage 30s) for a steal at $800, used in a local guitar shop. Those heads alone can go for $2,000+.
Also if anyone has a cheap cab, do yourself a favor a replace the speakers and put some quality ones(nice Greenbacks, Celestion Vintage 30, Jensen) in with big magnets. The difference in weight of them is huge compared to small cheap stock ones like in inexpensive Marshall cabs. The difference in sound is mountains.

I've tried Boogex with some of the POD impulses. Really responsive with nice harmonics, although a little noisey when trying to get the right amount of gain/volume. The Eq on it works really well. Try the simanalog Tubescreamer/Boss SD-1 before it to get some nice tones, as well as with a compressor before and and warming/exciter plug after, then take out some lows.

FLOORFISH can be used as a great noisegate. I use it in my GreaseTube/SimulAnalog JCM900/Boogex deal and it works great at taming the noise without effecting dynamics or tone too drastically. It takes some time experimenting to get the gate set up right for your own rig and playing style, though.

I did a really really quick boogex demo just now.. I'll upload it and you can listen.. I think it sounds a lot better than what I've heard from amp sims so far.
There is a bass guitar with boogex on it and compression, I used an ampeg impulse from the vault.
Then there is two tracks of guitar hard panned with different performances on each but with the same settings - as above but with a mesa impulse.
There's a little click at the end of each loop, but its not that bad so I just coped with it.

btw: I cannot access the digitalfishphones website, can anyone else???

I can't reach the digitalfishphones site right now either...hmmm. I like the bass tone on that little demo clip, Amberience! The guitars aren't upfront enough for me to make a call on, but I like the tone as a whole.
EDIT: I did finally get through to the digitalfishphones site.

Yeah I was going for a sort of "intro" feel with the guitars, I might extend it because I like the riff.

I wouldn't say that it sounds like a VST or not, but it doesn't really sound like the other side to me.
Character is similar, but it sounds like a different mic/cab

Maybe because BLACK 2x12 & TWEED 4X10 <> Marshall 4x12 + SM57chrishurley wrote:Character is similar, but it sounds like a different mic/cab
Now i have a real Marshall 4x12 miced with SM57 impulse, but i am too lazy to make a new clip.

Now that the search function on KVR is working again, there is a screenshot and description of my setup that uses Boogex and a POD impulse along with other plugs here: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... highlight=
It is similar in concept to Mutant's setup for the soundclip used in this poll - I'm using it for a cleanish to overdriven tone though. It is still my favorite amp sim and I think you could get close to any guitar amp tone you wanted using existing plugs in combination with impulse responses.
Thanks for the Gain Multiplier plugin, Mutant! I'm sure it will come in handy soon!
