Yeah ... the dongle sucks, but not for performance reasons in my experience. I tried to mess it up a few months ago ... I yanked the dongle mid-playback. Low and behold, Cubase did not crash on me. I was even able to stop playback without incident.
It's the editors that get bogged down. Like dragging a MIDI note around to various pitches. That's the stuff that calls the dongle non-stop. Maybe I'll look into Sonar ...

hate to say but i did this test months ago
the result were exactly the same
and rememebr folks when audio is running you can pull the dongle out and it still works fine
so quite how it is managing to funk up tozz's set up is quite beyond me

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

Its funny I think I already read that somewhereDan wrote:I have to agree. I've had CSR for 5 days now and it just keeps getting better and better as I learn to use the advanced pages/settings. But even out of the box the presets are amazingly transparent and natural. The ability to add a subtle ambience is amazing. Based upon my humble experience you'd need to jump to some multi-$ dollar hardware to top CSR

Ok. I was thinking about it a bit more.
*If* the dongle was the cause of a performance issue, it would affect things while playing back stuff, no? Or let's say, that'd be the only moment it'd truly matter. Couldn't care less about dongle calls while opening an editor (even if that might still affect performance in a way).
Well anyways, I just had a song playing and plugged the dongle out. The song continued to play just fine for about 5 minutes, so there could've been no further dongle calls during that period.
IMO that pretty much proves that it's not dongle calls affecting things during playback.
Now, it *might* still be that the general encryption stuff is causing the code to be blown up more or less drastically, but as the cracked version apparently is only emulating the dongle, rather than entirely erasing all protective lines of code, we can't know about this at all by such a test.
I'm still wondering about ttoz' test nonetheless.

There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Wow! I guess I'm famous. Didn't know they posted that.Boulotaur2024 wrote:Sickle wrote:CSR rules. On second thought, shouldn't Sickle and I get a free Philharmonik or something for the quotes. Somehow it would feel better to be ho's than fanboys

Those that can, do. Those that can't, argue about it on k-v-r

Just to be clear that i dont want to discredti you ttoz. But can you repeat your way in my methodology (mirroring disk images etc...). I can swear you will be surprised. They are absolutely same. I can confirm you that because i tested this even on second configuration.
With same results. (again)
Yeah
it seems that you and i have something same. we both need last juice from CPU

I think you might be doing something wrong there. I just yanked off the dongle during playback and it affected nothing, no CPU spikes, no extra or less DSP usage, nothing. This on a fairly maxed out project.ttoz wrote:Even though the cpu usage might be 95% on both dongled and warez versions, the warez version plays it back glitch free where as the dongle version had droputs and pops and clicks.
Pretty much nullifies the syncrosoft CPU eatage theory, doesn't it?

I usually work at 128samples, at 44.1khz, but ever since getting dual core, I haven't been suffering from clicking (well I do sometimes, but only during halion 3 pre caching samples). So I can go to 100% if I want to, but there hasn't been a project yet where I've needed that much horsepower. And we all know how cubase starts to behave at near 100%. That's right, the gui starts slowing down horribly and there's nothing you can do about it. At least it gives priority to audio and hence no clicking. Probably depends on soundcard and drivers, too, but RME seems to be trustworthy.ttoz wrote:How far can you take your sx cpu meter at a buffer size of 128 or 256 samples, honestly, before you get any pops or clicks?

Hate to tell you this but listen if you want. I tested this famous things on two different machines with various projects. Even with that kind (maxing CPU). I did thonex(i cant remember if this is correct name) tests etc... Always same. That's my own configuration.
EMU 1820M, overclocked P4 (i have AthlonX2 now
) and so on. When i max out my CPU i have errors in both versions. Everything has been same. Any time. Believe it or not.
On second configuration (Celeron D 2,66Ghz) with Terratec Phase USB external card i did have same results. So then? I even take statistical errors in considering etc.etc. always same.
CPU monitored from windows, and cubase. Again same. If one version glitch second is glitchin and vice versa. Every time. I did all that because fact that i can get more CPU perf. if i will use cracked version is driving me all the time.
If you asking me you have some issues with buffers or some ASIO misconfiguration. Please do it again with proper method.
And sorry for bad english
