Ed is amazing. He lived behind me when I lived with Kevin Gilbert in Eagle Rock. We rented this strange "castle" estate and Ed lived in one of the houses behind it. I went back there a few times to ask him about playing with Steely Dan on Aja and with Donald Fagen on The Nightfly. He was also one of the most popular session drummers for disco and funk in the 70's. We're doing a bunch of things with Ed now for the Studio ProFile series. These loops on www.esoundz.com right now are from his original "Greene Machine" audio CD library that were never released on CD ROM (let alone as REX!!!). They are good funk and R&B in the pocket grooves. Nick D'Virgilio rexed them actually (another great drummer who works with SR now as one of his main gigs).
We also have something else that is amazing from Ed. Anyone remember "Drum Drops" vinyl records that had grooves you could play along with? These you could say are some of the very first "loop libraries" ever. Well, Ed also made one in the mid seventies and he sent me one which we are transfering over to digital. It's all groovy disco beats off vinyl recorded in the 70's!!!! Pretty awesome. On top of all that we did a multitrack session with Ed in Nashville and had him play a bunch of Steely Dan grooves along with a mix of 70's rock, disco, funk, R&B and more. That's all coming but for now you have a nice taste of Ed's playing with these downloadable sound sets. I hope you enjoy them.
Here's more info on Ed from the website:
The Ed Greene Rex Edition Mini ProFile features grooves from one the most well-known and admired drummers of all time.
Ed Greene has quite possibly played drums on more records than anyone in the history of music. With a prolific career spanning well over 30 years, it's no wonder he's gained more recognition than most in his profession. Ed Greene has performed or recorded with artists such as Mama Cass, Mamas and the Papas, Frank Sinatra, Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Big Joe Turner, Tina Turner, Righteous Brothers, Osmonds, Glen Campbell, Hall & Oates, Seals & Crofts, Dolly Parton, Robert Palmer, Captain & Tennille, Pointer Sisters, Diana Ross, B.B. King, Carpenters, Steely Dan, Dizzy Gillespie, Smokey Robinson, Barbra Streisand, The Jackson Five, Barry Manilow, Gladys Knight, Tom Lones, John Cougar Mellencamp, Natalie Cole, Temptations, Kenny Rogers, New Edition, Whitney Houston, Nancy Wilson, Olivia Newton-John, and many, many more.

Hey guys,
You may want to check your pages for the loops, since the pages all say:
Cheers,
Mark

...but, from Dave's post above, it sounds like that's not true. I know I was initially steered off from these Rex files as I thought I might already have them from the SPSE group buy. This esound is a selection of sounds taken from: Studio ProFiles: Special Edition

I'm old enough to remember Drum Drops. Had to record all my songs in the AABABCAB format (verse/verse/chorus/etc.) whether you liked it or not. The Drum Drops I had (I forget the version)was a series of 3:15 cuts in different pop styles--the distant ancestor to the REX loop.Squids wrote:

I think this may have already been fixed because I don't see it there. Is it still there?mlyon wrote:Hey guys,

Anyway, these are different than the ones in the SE. In fact, if it is from SE it will actually say SE in the name of the product so that it is clear. For now only the Refills are from the SE. The Rex packs are completely new.

I am not sure. Maybe, maybe not. Possibly some of them as a bonus extra. I have a ton of stereo loops from Ed and also Danny Gottlieb that I don't have as multitracks and there's plenty of multitrack loops too. We HAVE to release ALL of it one way or another because they are just sooooo cool! I LOVE them personally. These Ed loops are tight and totally useful. But, on the other hand, Ed's multitrack collection would be a sweet DELUXE collection if it had these loops, the new ones we did in Nashville, the vintage loops from the LP from 1975 (that was mastered by...hmmm, I have to check. Bill Schnee or James Guthrie... someone like that anyway, I will find out. Maybe Elliot Scheiner).mlyon wrote:Yes, it is now fixed. Thanks for the clarification. Will these also be included in the full Studio ProFile title for Ed?

I may hold off a bit on the EG MPs then, until that firms up a bit more. I'm definitely getting the EG SPF full edition, as I'm into the grooves you have on the SPSE. I'll probably grab a couple of the MPs as well, but don't want to duplicate things.
BTW, I completely agree that these MPs look to be very useful loops. The tempos are great for me as well (more in my ballpark than the Bun E ones -- which I also like). Okay, just slap the "fanboy" tattoo on me....
Cheers,
Mark

Mark,
I'm with you, but I had some epointz burnin' a hole in my pocket and I got Vols. 4 & 6...outstanding is all I can say...great grooves...
I picked those two because they seemed to have the most fills...besides, I bumped this thread to get some Ed Greene minis so I felt like I had to do it..(poor me)

Feel free to grab some if you want and if you end up getting the full Ed Greene title then if they end up also on there you can ask for a little discount to cover it. If the end up not being on there then it will be a great thing itself to have.
Whenever you find there could be a crossover situation of sounds you can always ask Elijah for a little discount to compensate and he'll do what he can as always. We just can't implement every system to be automated like that. But, the idea of the downloadable material is let you have what we've got NOW if it inspires you. But, certainly not if you're worried about making the wrong decision. As long as you are going UPWARD in terms of the package you're interested in then I don't see a problem. Elijah will be happy to make "custom" upgrade discounts depending on what you have. But, that can only happen later when the full title is actually released. There are a bunch of titles coming out before Ed's which is why I wanted to get these up at least for now.

[EDIT: In case anyone's interested, I grabbed numbers 2 and 4...similar reasoning to Rob, but number 2 sounds like it may work for something I'm currently working on.]
