This thread is really geeky, in a nice way!
Haven't used AAR that much, but it sounds very nice. Here's brok's sample through one of my favourite reverbs, tweaked by me (trying to resemble the long reverb): http://www.hornquist.se/jah-long_reverb.mp3

Hi Brok,
cheers,
LiteOn
I would like to, but you need to show some more patience. At best, I'll get around on Thursday evening.brok landers wrote: btw, as you are an owner of both units:
please, download the original wav, the preset for the aar, and then try to top the aar with the csr and post it here!
that was my original intension with this thread ...
would you, please?
cheers,

great (and funny) thread!
i don't think CSR can sound like this (long_verb). it is better suited for material requiring plate or room type of reverb. at least this is what i thought when demoing it, as the CSR hall didn't convince me...
anyway this is my try for the long_verb:
http://s54.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3ASI ... 4O8Z6BMYXS
or
http://www.filegone.com/mjec
not as dense as yours, but cleaner and brighter... i like it better!
just kidding

1. When do we get to hear the music you're making with all your sound design expertise?
2. What Vangelis would you recommend if I like the Blade Runner stuff but the handful of other Vangelis tracks I've heard seemed too new age?

I always loved that closing theme from "The Bounty" (1984) movie...wonder6oy wrote:Antarcticakuniklo wrote:Two questions:brok landers wrote: i am the biggest vangelis fan on the planet (allthough alexander is bullshit imo, i love the analog stuff of vangelis way more) ...![]()

Here is the closest I could get with Roomworks / Ambience and I don't think it's possible to to push it farther. I contribute the last bits of detail to a slightly different EQ curve and internal decay, but it's quite close to my ears (or taste for that matter). I think that Jah1234 version is better in some aspects and it would be interesting to tweak that effect.

Fantastic! I was going to suggest this one myself, but you beat me to it.cthmusic wrote:Yeah, no problem. way longer tail though (what, 15sec or so?) i used 7 sec or so ...
its a bit long, your tail ... it washes out the harmonic content of the file, musically i mean.
could you provide the same with 7 sec's?
also, the initial delay (pre delay or early reflections) are too obvious (all imo, plse notice).
but sounds nice and wide ...
lemme know what that reverb unit is ...
It doesn't give a sec readout for the length, so I tried to get it fairly close to your original length with this new file.

Here's a pic of the settings ....
I get consistantly and disturbingly good results with this strange little verb.
For those of you who have gotten lost in this thread, this verb and the one listed above by jah1234 seem to get closest to the original AAR long verb posted at the beginning of this thread (to my ears, anyway).

Chris,
that's the closest (but still different) one we've had this far. It's different enough for me to like it on it's own merits.
Although I still prefer my earlier CSR plate example. In that one I didn't attempt to copy the sound, but just made it sound the way I like to hear it, so it's not comparable as such.

Funnily, she used to use those old Alesis MidiVerbs. They were dark sounding, and only used a sampling frequency of 32khz, but when you juiced the highs with some good high shelving, and added some compression to the returns, you could get a really brilliant sounding vocal wash.seamoss wrote:what reverb does Enya use?

Might I guess that you are refering to her first album? I remember observing once how it didn't sound as sweet and lush as her others and thinking to myself, "she must have upgraded."kilroy wrote:Funnily, she used to use those old Alesis MidiVerbs. I think we can all agree that Broks AAR reverb is probably the best choice for this particular sequence and it makes it really shine. However, as others have mentioned, AAR seems not to be the universal reverb tool for everything. It would certainly be interesting to do a similar test with other material like drums, vocals etc.

yes chris ... of course, i made that preset on that sequence ... so, of course it shines best with this sequence, dunno if it works for another task ...c_huelsbeck wrote:Here is the closest I could get with Roomworks / Ambience and I don't think it's possible to to push it farther. but thatfor i would (if needed) create another patch ...
however, allthough i'm at home now (bad speakers), you get closer!
nevertheless, now it gets more obvious that the reverb signal is heavily tweaked ... and still, it seems, that or roomworks/ambience simply cannot provide the initial quality a reverb needs that cannot be tweaked out of the reverb itself ...
and yes, you are right, this spacemasterthing of reaktor sounds extremly close, and very "expensive" if i am allowed to say so ...
some say that the r66 is the same, but allthough i see the similarity, i have to say the demo never convinced me ... other than the spacemaster, it seems ...

yes, on drums there are several vst's that provide good results, in some cases better working than the aar (allthough i absolutely love the aar with spread/attack on perussion) ... but on vocals i did not find anything that works as good in a mix as the aar does ...c_huelsbeck wrote:I think we can all agree that Broks AAR reverb is probably the best choice for this particular sequence and it makes it really shine. in general (to me, at least) i don't really search for reverbs that can do drumrooms, i can cover that with impulse response reverbs. they don't suck away the cpu as the rooms are short and with the right impulses they sound stunning.
when it comes to longer, alive reverbs (i.e. for vocals on a non-rnb/hiphop nurockthingy), then i failed until the aar ...
maybe it's because i'm an 80's addict, musical-wise ...
