Your probably right that this would be stupid for repetitive trance.. Because trance doesn't have any swing in it (traditionally.) :)
Oh dang are you calling Bones' music Trance! haha it will be on!

Bones, sure you can to pre-recorded midi.

The idea presented here is to add to already 'swung' quantized data using mouse clicks;

It's adding in some 'flava' with appropriate mouse clicks here and there. Not that different than going back in with the mouse and adding in flams and such with BFD, after recording a basic kick/snare pattern.

That's one cool feature of SX.
You can grab the groove from a rex file (for instance) create a 'groove template' (I think it's called) & then apply that to the piano roll - makes fitting drum to the groove real simple, visual & intuitive.
I wish live had that feature :(

1. I dont believe you can in ext.. I think you need a groove module which doesnt let you see the notes swung.. Its NOT destructive. :?

2. Even if I COULD do that.. It would not suffice because I want to be able to insert swung notes with my mouse.. And also auto quantize them upon input! :)
The following statement is true.
The previous statement is false.

you could also use tempo maps (cubase, protools, logic ... and maybe some more)

then the grid is even divided but the tempo between them are different

It's not the ability to swing, it's the ability to visualize it with gridlines that match the amount of swing. I thought that much was made pretty clear in the first post! :?

Uh.. yes, it does work. I can put up an audio example if you want to hear it in action.

No, but I was just responding to the remark that the swing is buggy and doesn't work 8)

LOGIC PRO 7 - my fav at least - the swing function is even easier to use that sx3's (i have both but use logic now)

Well it ain't the meat, it's the motion!

Magix Music Studio will let you swing on a note per note basis but doesn't alter the grid. That would be a excellent feature.

Doesn't Acid Pro (5 and 6)do stuff like this with its grooves? It can even do it on audio. I'm not sure about it though; I don't use that feature.

Considering the outcome it's possible already for me quiet easily in Orion Platinum. Maybe it's just a question of time. If Cubase does that, why don't use that? Let's think about it what 'features' really important to make really good music! That 'features' relate with you, not the softwares you use.

Watch out, Orion v7 is coming!!! 8)
