I still think Jah1234 is closer... he has not revealed yet what that unit is...

hey, that came closest up to now (imo)
way longer tail though (what, 15sec or so?) i used 7 sec or so ...
its a bit long, your tail ... it washes out the harmonic content of the file, musically i mean.
could you provide the same with 7 sec's?
also, the initial delay (pre delay or early reflections) are too obvious (all imo, plse notice).
but sounds nice and wide ...
lemme know what that reverb unit is ...
Yeah, no problem. I'm using Space Master 2 in Reaktor 5.1

It doesn't give a sec readout for the length, so I tried to get it fairly close to your original length with this new file.

Here's a pic of the settings ....

Fantastic! I was going to suggest this one myself, but you beat me to it.

I get consistantly and disturbingly good results with this strange little verb.

For those of you who have gotten lost in this thread, this verb and the one listed above by jah1234 seem to get closest to the original AAR long verb posted at the beginning of this thread (to my ears, anyway).
I always end up forgetting about this little gem, it's a great verb for modeling realistic spaces. Hands down, though, AAR takes the cake in long expansive musical tails. I just got my registration code, so I'll be playing more than producing today :hihi:

IMO L480 isn't an awfully good sound. I prefer the PCM series to it. I always thought the L480 "ultragrain" wasn't as usable as the PCM "wash" in dense mixes.
Many believe the Lexicon 224XL was the lushest sounding reverb ever. That's why most who own the 480L have the Classic Card that contains some of the 224 algoritms. But even then it does not sound identical the 224XL. Although you'd think everyone would be selling them, with all of these low cost plug ins around, but they're almost impossible to find these days.

Not only are the algorithms special, it has essential parameters that none of the plug-ins have.

Indeed I was.

Those were funny boxes. Engineers would blend them under a Lex for a bit more trash on drum sounds, and it worked quite well. One has to remember that many of the verbs one hears on your typical pop recordings are heavily shaped and compressed. The difference this can make, especially in a mix, is so huge it can't be overstated. Personally I don't think there has ever been a time I have not EQed and compressed reverb to some degree...occasionally both sends and returns. Often it is the only way to make the stuff fit your source properly.

But yeah...smashing thread.

that is painfully bad. Thankfully I gave up reason a long time ago. :hihi:
Sorry to have hurt you with such a bad reverb, please don't sue me.

wasn't there a thread a while ago, where someone posted a dry, clannad/enya like vocal snippet?
if someone knows, i'd really like to try it out with the aar ...
so if anyone could provide a link, i'd be thankful!

yep, the closest as yet.

Indeed. Some of the Artsacoustic-users could try to get close to the Lexicon-reverb I uploaded for another thread, especially on the drums, it's here:

www.scherer.de/Download/300test2.rar

It's a complete (mini)-arrangement to be able to judge how it sounds in the mix.

c_huelsbeck wrote:I think we can all agree that Broks AAR reverb is probably the best choice for this particular sequence and it makes it really shine. However, as others have mentioned, AAR seems not to be the universal reverb tool for everything. It would certainly be interesting to do a similar test with other material like drums, vocals etc.

The great yet shamely forgotten Roland vp-330 you mean :D ?

'k, back on topic now : )

@brok landers : yes I used a soundfont of Eminent 310 solina (no I don't own the real thing) : (

What do you live users think about the Reverb in Live? I must say I seldom use it. I use SpaceMaster, Ambient or Cyan.

Um, I almost hate to go there, but you can take my Amplitube 2/Sampletank 2.1/CSR from me when you pry them from my cold, dead hands. :)

Here is something I whipped up just for fun and the spirit of participation:

brok,

Did you use any compression on the long reverb sample? The reverb sounds so "fast" and tight, and more percussive sounding then the source if that makes any sense. IS this what those spread/attack settings do in AAR?
