ok, I have an issue in SX3 that the manual does not explain.
I record say a 4 bar piano track. I then want to add to that same event, so, record over the top. But, instead of this adding the notes to the pre recorded piano, it creates a new event over the top, containing the newly added notes. It sounds fine - by that I mean that aurally it has worked, but, when I come to edit that event in the key editor, I can only see the last lot of notes (ie the second event that I recorded).
I do have the options set to MERGE and MIDI MIX, so I cant understand why this is creating new events intead of mixing. Any ideas on this?

I have done. The prefs are as above, (Merge and Midi Mix) and I have selected them both. The manual offers nothing else on this.ford442 wrote:i'm pretty sure there is an option for recording mode.. look in the preferences and in the manual..

Look at the transport bar: you can pick an 'overdub' (dunno what it's called exactly, can't check now) mode there (it's on the left).

What also works is to glue the two events after recording then you get one event. But the two events shouldn't have the same starting point.(At least I think so).

Again, I have done that. In fact, to quote direct ..." If record mode is set to merge, then the overdubbed events are added to the exisitng part".cimoc wrote:check operation manual pages 74 and 75
I have indeed set it to merge, and it does not merge, but instead creates a new event over the old one, containing only the new notes. That is the problem I have.

I would recommend registering on Cubase.net and asking there. This sounds like a configuration issue and would require a lot more indepth explanation of all of the hardware etc... MIDI merge during record works fine. I don't even remember it being broken at any point of SX.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer
