Is there a sampler that allows you to use samples of different lengths for the same note that are triggered in sequence depending on how long a note is sustained for?
What i mean is if youve got strings of different lengths - say 1s 3s & 5s, then at note on 1s sample is triggered and if note off is < 1s nothing else gets triggered - it just decays naturally or with whatever AHDSR. BUT if note off is > 1s < 3s second sample is triggered, and if > 3s the 5s sample is triggered.
In concept this would need user definable timing range 'thresholds', in which trigger the next sample and attenuate the current (x-faded). It wouldnt be necessary to have all samples actually playing in parallel to preserve resources, but just triggered in sequence at the point the previous starts to decay or at the point of x-fade into the next.
This would be particularly good for accurate modelling of acoustic instruments with plucks, stocatto, half and whole notes etc because the velocity people play say a violin at changes in anticipation to the length of the note they are playing, which can drastically alter its characteristics.
ALSO - ive also found that sampling guitars and strings can never sound realistic enough for fast playing, because i dont know of any samplers that alternate the samples depending on whether you're playing up or down the strings. This could be adjusted real time with a foot pedal or mod wheel just as wah is.
I know as a workaround i can have short notes, med and long, or (string up and string down) as separate instruments and midi channels running in parallel, and transfer notes between each after ive recorded in one. This seems unnecessarily fiddly and detracts from realistic playing style just as manually programming complex melodies instead of banging out real time on a keyboard.
Im sure people who appreciate these features would pay a bit for them, but if someone already knows of st that has one or both abilities id be ever grateful. I got NI halion, kontakt and battery so if there are any tutorials or mods.... please hook me up!
Thanks

What does exist for sure, is samplers that have seperate samples for the release of notes, and different articulations (pizzicato etc) so in effect that could do what you want.
Articulation of acoustic instruments is a pain in the budd to sequence, no matter what sampler you use. More effort you put in, more realistic results!!
