I think the current 3.0 version is still a release candidate, not the final version. That might be the reason. I've used the previous version (2.0) with good results, you could try and find it.
Or you could use the Slim Slow Slider sidechains:

They work like a charm, like everything SSS

The mind boggles.

the db-Audioware compressor isn't true side cain (there's latency), but
slim slow slider has a few good freebies
commercial ones, in no particular order, and all of them good:
OtiumFX Compadre
Voxengo Crunchessor
Kjaehus Audio GAC-1, and that one other (forgot its name), probably called GUP-1

Not only that, but you can (psychoacoustically) fool people thinking you're using more compression than you actually are.
It's great for blasting FX compression crush that doesn't completely destroy the dynamics.

voxengo crunchesser has side chain...
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I think no chance for FruityLoops. Read: http://otiumfx.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=29Debutante wrote:Is there a method of working Slim Slow Slider's Sideckick Compressor in FL?
But you can ask in FL forum if it is possible anyway.

We are now working on adding external sidechain capability to the AU, MAS and RTAS versions of TrackPlug 5 and hope to have it ready in the next update (which will also support MacIntel AU and RTAS) by the end of the month or early next month. DX and VST have less straightforward sidechain support but we'll still look into getting it working in these formats, it will just take longer.
