I've no idea on DX, but with VST you've not much other choice than to implement 4 discrete inputs for stereo sidechaining, just like everybody else. And even then it's up to the host wether it'll support it or not. It's a bitch, innit?

For mono you need to make a separate version as well. *sigh*

luckily VST SDK and host support is improving slowly when it comes to this.

It's something that's actually more difficult to do with the VST format? What an odd thing for Steinberg to do...

EDIT: I guess Kingston answered that. :D

One's the correct term and one is made up? :P
this is incorrect. these are 2 different things. a side chain is where one channel affects the processing of another, and mid/side is where the mid is what a stereo signal has in common for both channels, and side is the unique info contained in each side of a stereo configuration.

Nice try, but "sidechannel" is just wrong in terms of what the original poster was asking about: Twisted Lemon Sidekick has nothing to do with M/S processing, I would say. I think it's pretty obvious that wasn't what anyone was talking about.

And I don't really hear people referring to it as "sidechanneling"; I think that may be a computer technology term though....

well i wasnt questioning what people were talking about, just the title of the thread.

Oh, I see. Well, yes, there is such a thing as a "side channel", but not in this context. :D

There's a couple of sidechaining comps that have two plugins, a send and a receive. The audio is passed between the two independently of the host's audio engine so it doesn't matter what level of VST support your host has.

I think there's a tut on the ableton site.

Logic's internal sidechain facilities are great, but they only work with their own plugins.

there is osmething about routing, which is a helpful tut, but i see nothing about sidechaining and side chain compressors... which is what i wish to know more about

Debutante wrote:Is there a method of working Slim Slow Slider's Sideckick Compressor in FL?
you dont need it. Put a peak controller on the controlling channel, and a compressor on the to-be-controlled channel. Link the compressor ratio to the peak controllers peak value. change values to suit - bam, instant sidechain.
