SIR and Tracktion...?

Greetings,

I am using Tracktion 2 (latest build) and SIR 1.0.11 (also latest build), and am experiencing something I hope one of you can help me with.

Here's the deal, I am in the process of mixing a CDs worth of tunes and thus jumping in and out of the different edits in Tracktion quit often, making slight changes, then saving all of my edits with names that tell me when and what I did to the mix. Typically, I get the mix where I want it, then render a mix into the project at full bandwidth, then export that mix to a CD ready file format (44.1 / 16 bit).

What happens is that after doing this process to one or many tunes, I then go back to continue tweaking, and I find that the SIR reverb level is either much more, or much less than what I mixed at. To clarify, I am wrapping SIR in a rack filter, so I can use post fader sends from each individual track, thus sharing only one instance of SIR (alias CPU hog...).

I thought I had cured this by reloading my SIR preset, or picking another impulse, then switching back to the original, or changing sample rates in Tracktion, or any number of guesses, yet when I try to recreate the workaround today on another tune, it is useless, in that the verb is way more intense, and the only fix is to remix, which will drive me crazy if I have to do this every time I come back to the tune....!

Weird thing is that it is not consistent. Some tunes stay just fine when I come back into them, while others have issues.

I m starting to wonder if it's specific impulses I am using (today's issue was with the St. Nicholas Church impulse.

I am also wondering if I am out of bounds using SIR 44.1 impulses with 88.2 recorded tracks.

And, perhaps it is connected to rendering, which is usually the last thing I do before saving the edit.

Any feedback is welcome...!

Thanks,
Philip

I don't use Tracktion, but...

Is it the reverb itself that screws up the levels, or the project? If it's just the VST recall, and if you're only using one instance of SIR, why not simply write down your settings? I need to do this with Wavelab Lite (no recall) all the time; it's a quick workaround until you get the problem solved.

Great idea... it's just that all of the settings come back as should be, including the wrapper send and return levels that effect SIR. I usually save my SIR settings in a preset, and yet reloading it does not resolve the issue. I'm thinking this is a Tracktion VST Wrapper issue. It's like the gain stage to the wrapped VST is not consistent.

Thanks for your response.

Do you have the "Auto Gain" option on or off? (On is default)

If its on, note down the value it reads there and see if that has changed in the edits that sound wrong.

Alternatively, adjust the wet level by the same amount and turn that option off.. see if that makes a difference.

auto gain where?

Under the dry/wet "On" buttons and just to the left of the "+12dB" button.

Greetings Everyone,

I re-posted this inquiry in the Raw Materials forum (where it should have been in the first place), and I believe I have received the answer, which is a better understanding of rack filter setup in Tracktion.

I have not tested the fix that I just learned from that thread, yet I am confident that it will clarify some of the mystery.

Go there and read (under the same subject).

Thanks,

Philip
