Yeah, no freeze, that's pretty silly. That and -- as was mentioned -- no sends from buses, which basically means no sends from softhsynths. That one is really, really, really stupid. But it's such a step forward for Sony Foundry and I have such a sentimental attachment to Vegas (which I had to abandon when softsynths and rewire became crucial to my work and they just steadfastly refused to improve what I considered the best of all the audio apps) that I went ahead and bought it anyway.
Another impulse buy; another writeoff I hope I'll need this time next year.

Why should you lose all your settings? Just mute the original track and use the rendered track. If you need a tweak later, just rerender from the original track.CANE CREEK wrote:
What you supposed to do in Acid , render to Audio and loose all your settings/patched/tweeks etc thats just not good enough.
A FREEZE function is very very important and no DAW should be without one.
Its inconvenient, but this is certainly not a showstopper.

I didn't think by muting the track this would unload the effects/instruments freeing CPU/memory , i gathered they'ed still be useing cpu/memory.

I'm an avid P5 user. I got P5 hoping it could fullfill my vsti, acid style audio manipulation, and reason rewire needs all in one package. It doesn't. It's an awesome midi arranging tool, but it's fallen way short for ease of use with fooling around with audio, and Rewire with Reason is pretty bad. These apps are pretty different and have very different strengths.riley4reason wrote:Really?? I took that as a gimme! Didn't even look for it! Just assumed it was there. I believe I have read elsewhere that muted tracks consume no CPU, but the effects will remain loaded and will still require some memory.CANE CREEK wrote:i gathered they'ed still be useing cpu/memory.
I'd be suprised though if memory usage in this case was a real concern, the main issue would be CPU usage I think.

I think Sony took too long and did too little with ACID 4 and 5 but V.6 is big leap forward IMHO, maybe v.7 will be THE real challenger to the more established hosts.

Hey, I am with you sgx! I am also a registered P5 2.0 user and aside from it's superb MIDI softsynth workstation feature set (which is what I mainly use it for), it falls short, of ACID Pro 6, in most other area's. Namely, multi-track audio recording, audio editing, loop arranging, loop preview (MIDI & audio) and the mixing is rudimentary, at best. Just (4) simple aux buses, for mixing, is pretty lame. But for a softsynth workstation, 4 aux buses, does the job, I guess. Those are just a few things, they share, off the top, of my head. Never mind, all the major features that ACID 6 has, that P5 lacks, like Redbook DAO CD burning, video scoring capabilities, control surface support, multi audio outs, 5.1 surround, dual core/multi-CPU support, you can even open & export to literally dozens of different media formats, for the ultimate, in media distribution flexibility, all from one app. You can even preview and then drag, onto the ACID timeline, from ACID's Explorer View, most any type of file format @ any sample rate/bit depth(up to 32bit/192) and ACID will happily use it, at your existing project settings, for the ultimate in user versatility. ACID is pretty much format agnostic and will use just about any media file you throw at it. That is one area that NO other DAW can even touch ACID 6 on. You basically have only one choice, for example, in P5, for export, beside's it's proprietary format and that is, as a wave file. Although, you can import both wave/MIDI files.sgx wrote:I'm an avid P5 user. I got P5 hoping it could fullfill my vsti, acid style audio manipulation, and reason rewire needs all in one package. Don't get me wrong, I really dig P5 2.0, but if I had to choose between the two, it would not be P5. But, fortunately, I don't have to choose and I can easily rewire one to the other or vice versa. The do rewire very well together, BTW.

Yeap, well I'm getting Acid 6 because I'm tired of rewiring P5 and Reason into Pro 5. Three apps at once isn't fun. I was also hoping to rewire and control reason from P5, but P5 works poorly with Reason for anything other than just syncing up. Acid rewires and controls reason well. So I can do vsti, audio, and reason all from Acid now...don't really need P5 anymore unfortunately. I'll have to see what's in store for P5 3.0 though
P5 2.0 upgrades are pretty cheap, so I'll likely be still keeping up with it.

If the upgrade to P5 3.0 is as reasonable, as the 2.0 upgrade($79 bucks)was, which also included the excelllent Dimension Synth, I'll upgrade just to stay current.sgx wrote: I'll have to see what's in store for P5 3.0 thoughP5 2.0 upgrades are pretty cheap, so I'll likely be still keeping up with it.

features not there like freeze and send FX from VSTi etc., as pointed out earlier in the thread are mangeable as they are not show stopper. And everybody does not need them.
To be a faithful DAW it needs to be STABLE first of all ,IMO.
It crashes even when try to move events in the track.
But I still love it.

I've been using Acid Pro from version 2.0 as far as I remember, when 5.0 had been released, I bought Steinberg Cubase SX 3 just because Acid 5 couldn't handle all of the rewiring, and VST instruments in one session. I'm a Tascam GigaStudio 3 (rewired) user, and AP5 just didn't handle it right. Now with ver. 6, it's all beautiful. It stills has some Port and Channels name issues, but I know they'll fix this sooner or later.
Yes, the Freeze and the Bus / Effect / Instruments send functions are mandatory, but I know I'll be able to deal without it, untill 7.0 comes out and catch up all these show stoppers... I mean, show slowers would be more appropriate.
I agree too that they should've worked out the mixer pane, which is still too basic, but at least it's straight forward. I really hope that if they touch this one, they'll keep the "to the point" feel to it.
I've been throught some rendering issues that I didn't have with Cubase 3.0, and some odd behaviour while recording looped (midi or audio), and while editing midi notes and parts, but I guess this is because all these new multitrack function are so fresh, that they need to be lushed with 7.0 to get more robust.
But I remember when I was seeing myself leaving my beloved Acid Pro for Cubase... I was very afraid to be less quick on the edits and on the instant creation. Well, now this fear is gone, as I can throw away my Cubase copy, and never think about Sonar, Live, or PT anymore for multitrack recording. That's the big relief feel that is so much more important than all these little issues and details (which I know are important in a long term).
Just one thing : now that Acid Pro became a DAW, even if it's not as mature, it's kick aasses of all the other DAW's workflow and intuitiveness.

You're whacked! Sends for VSTis and a more flexible routing scheme are essential. The other thing that is f**ked up about ACID, is the restriction of only being able to adjust loop lengths to increments of 4/4.SonicBreeze wrote:features not there like freeze and send FX from VSTi etc., as pointed out earlier in the thread are mangeable as they are not show stopper. Version 6 is a definite improvement but there is still a bit more to go.
