Unfortunately, that's one of the biggest shortcomings of eXT and until it gets it, musicians with lots of hw will have to use something else, but I think Jorgen recognises that his app is starting to be very popular and he's always open to suggestions, and he's sometimes more human than a machine :D. I think he'll implement it at some point, 100%. We get MTC with eXT2!! Finally! :D So you get my point: it's going slowly, but it's going to happen for sure.

I think Podium is a bit more "pro" in that department, but eventually IMHO - those two and Sonar will rule. Can't beat the price/features, man...

I can't say how glad I am that Podium finally gets some discussion here at KvR. It's been quite neglected, almost like it didn't exist. And such a quality host.

What am I doing wrong? I've setup my midi and asio ins/outs in setup. I click new arrangement and this new arrangement box comes up. I click new track and it creates a track but there's a red error button saying in need to set up some input mappings. So I click on the tab below to set up inputs and it opens a big empty grey box. A tooltip comes up saying to right click here to show a cotext menu with related track options but when I right click nothing happens - the box doesn't seem to do anything?? This is way overcomplicated.

It sounds like you've skipped a few steps in the studio setup. If you open the project wizard (ctrl+w), there should be some red buttons indicating the problems. I can recommend following the 'getting started' tutorial in the Podium guide. When you start with a new project there's a 'quick setup' button in the project wizard which will set up everything including a basic arrangement with MIDI and audio input configured so you can start playing immediately.

Not sure if this is going to help with you dilema but,,
at the top right hand corner there is a button marked 'list' ,, click on this and you should have access to devices such as Vsts (if you have set up) which you can drag and drop onto the arrangement.

Cheers!
it's strange then that I almost never touched the main area in eXT - would ou say I'm doing something wrong? ;-) :-D
Yep. But not wrong, just differently. You can work in many ways in eXT, and I like cables :D. The "main area" will be used far more in v2. Actually, Jorgen is working on something similar to what I have in mind - one area for routing/connections and the sequencer area which will be connected and also connected with the mixer, so when you put a VSTi in the main area, it will show up in the sequencer and in the mixer, and if you put a VSTi from within the sequencer it should show up in the main area and in the mixer. Pure and simple. That's what I'd like to see in Podium, too. I hope Jorgen will do it right... He's also implementing the "replace VST/VSTi thingy" :D, now when you mentioned that, actually it's already in 1.4 beta.

thank you for explaining this to me.

No problem Jens! :D.

The main thing about about this main area/modular approach is that it is always easy to see what's connected where, and it gives you total freedom to connect everything everywhere, so you can setup sidechains easily for instance, or feed the input of a VSTi with audio signal, make feedbacks..., actually everything that comes to your mind. The only problem with eXT is that, as it is now, the main area cabling and VST/VSTi's doesn't mirror in the sequencer and sequencer's mixer, rather in it's own mixer, but v2 will merge this all together. There will be one mixer for all, and the changes you make in the main area will reflect within the sequencer! [YES!] and you can always work the other way around: put the VSTi in a sequencer and it should show up in the main area... at least that's how I understood Jorgen said it would be. It will be a dream to work with it, or at least I hope so :D. Now if only eXT had a GUI responsivness of Podium... :hihi:

Cheers!

oh thanks, I see - up to now I rarely visited the eXT-forum, that's probably why I missed it - but now that I browsed this forum a bit I also found this thread:

which is quite an interesting read I must say... :-D

Yes a little bit of patience in setting up will reward the experience,, Podium is that good,,, especially if you for something in the vein of Cubase ,, Samplitude etc..

this host intrigues me. i just wish it had rewire so i could hook it up to muzys. it seems like all these small independant hosts lack rewire... the very thing that would make them attractive to users of smaller developers offerings...

This is not true. :(

Rewire is on the list for implementation into Podium but I think Frits - the developer - has had some difficulties getting licensing information from Propellerheads.

If you can only send audio UP the heirarchy and in a tree you can only have one parent track, how do you use multiple send busses?

I can wrap a generator in a Send bus track and have it go to a Return bus somewhere else, but I don't know where to add more send busses?

The Busses section in the help file is empty. :(

(that said, as per usual, there are lots of things in Podium I think are fab... and I'm determined to fully appreciate the heirarchical approach to mixing.)
