First post, and I registered just to say this:

I use a turntable and scratch, and I love to use very expressive very playable (with midi control, of course) vsts. What do you guys suggest as the most expressive and playable effects, so I could use my foot pedal/expression pedals and basically play my turntable through the effects like an instrument.. My favorite ones so far have been the 3 freeware audio to synths posted here,Kantos, a commercial audio to synth, the reaktor audio to synth (autobass, autosynth, hassline), and Amplitubes wah pedal. I know there must be better wah pedals then amplitubes shitty one under the stomp section... What else would be a contendor?

Are there any other effects that I could assign a bunch of parameters to knobs/pedals and jam out and tweak my turntable similar (but not the same) as a synth? I'd like to know that, and also about the best wah pedals in terms of expressibility, and cleanliness of tone. Amplitubes wah pedal isnt too clear and muddies up the sound a bit. It also is most noticible with alot of distortion.. So are there any other good audio controlled synths besides the ones I know about?

I have a whole boatload of knobs and expression pedals to play with!

Using the turntable with audio to synth shit- espesially Kantos is absolutely amazing, might I add!

Thank you for helping me on my journey to turn the turntable into a crazy interactive music communication device! I never know what is going to happen when I use audio to synth stuff, its like exploring because I remember what does what and get a feel of whats happening in my head, but im always being surprised.

I'll make a whole lot of suggestions after I do some digging.
But may I suggest also looking into audio-to-midi programs such as Widi or
TS Audio-to-midi? Using those, cafefully configured, you could play
any VST synth, tracking the notes your scratching makes and there's
certainly a lot of free synths linked here on kvr that you could use.

I've been having pretty good luck experimenting with this and using vocals
through a mic (which suffers the drawback of picking up other musician's
noise in the background, unlike a turntable).

In any event welcome! I'll come back with more info and I'd really like
to hear what you do.

You'll find some quality stuff here:

Also, theoretically you would find FL Studio to be useful for several reasons. One is that it offers a turntable VST which would allow you to apply what you already know about rhythm to new and exotic samples within a soft-studio environment. And two, it has one of the more in-depth and visually satisfying methods of capturing and representing real-time controller data. So you can easily spend some time improvising with the freedom that comes with that but also know that it can then be examined and edited in a very intuitive way after you're done jamming (that's where the Formula Controller might come in handy). Have a look at the Formula Controller and the Fruity Scratcher, then ponder on how those two can be combined with other effects (especially effects that are conducive to automation).

The world is your oyster.
