Hello,
Not too long ago I reformatted my PC and reinstalled all my software (if only I had thought of imaging software like Acronis earlier-would have saved me a lot of hassle).
Anyway, I have only just noticed on Logic 5.5.1 for PC that the record buttons for Audio Instruments are not there, which means I can't record my Audio Instruments such as EXS 24 etc...., though I can play them. How did that happen and how can I get the record button back?
Excuse me for asking Logic related questions on this forum, but maybe someone can shed some light on my problem
Thanks in advance for your response(s).

Thanks for your response. Record Switch is ticked on. The audio tracks have record buttons but not the audio instrument tracks. Very strange!! Is it an environment problem??beej wrote:Make sure View -> Record Switch is ticked.

Ah...the strange delights of the frozen-in-time Logic 5.5.1!
I think you will still be able to record on those tracks, just by having the track selected then pressing record on the transport bar.

no, instrument objects don't have/need a record button, as you just record midi events on these objects, no audio.Atomic Marshmallow wrote:The audio tracks have record buttons but not the audio instrument tracks. Very strange!! Is it an environment problem??
the reason why there are record buttons in addition to just-hit-record in the transport is, that you can record midi _and_ audio on an audio object. so, when you want record audio on a audiotrack, you just have to hit the record button on the object (to arm it) plus hit record on the transport.
if you just like to record midievents on that audiotrack, just hit record on the transport.
but don't forget to set the object to "midi" (right under the pan pot ...
hope that helps ...

Yeah, you can just select the track and press record on the ol' PC logic if I remember correctly. Was reformatting so much of a headache that you forgot?

As far as I can see yes. I assume that you mean on the side bar in the Arrange page that the selected track is assigned to ASIO? I don't know what you mean though by the tape deck icon.beej wrote:Are the environment audio instrumne tobjects correctly assigned to the right audio drivers? Can you instantiate and run synths on those audio instrument channels? Have you assigned the tape deck icon to those channels?
Basically the "problem" is that I recently did a format and reinstall of my system. I noticed that on the PC where I recently reinstalled Logic (5.5.1 for PC) that the record buttons for Audio Instruments are not there anymore in the Arrange Page. However, on my other PC where I also have Logic installed, I have record buttons for Audio instruments in the arrange page but not in the mixer or environment page.brok landers wrote: no, instrument objects don't have/need a record button, as you just record midi events on these objects, no audio.

I find it strange that on one PC I have record buttons and on the other PC (where I just reformatted and reinstalled) I don't. So basically I am confused why this is the case and question whether this is "normal" or has something gone wrong? My Audio tracks have record buttons on both PCs.
I have to say that I prefer to have record buttons in the arrange page, because it is just that little bit more convenient. Ok, I can still do what I need to do, but to repeat myself again, why is it that one PC has record buttons and the other doesn't?
I see no way to do this (at least with version 5.5.1 for PC)brok landers wrote:

Thanks so far for your responses. Very much appreciated!!!

I don't see the record buttons either, even though they're mentioned in the manual. I don't remember *ever* seeing them actually, and had presumed this was just a bug or error in the manual. I'm very intruiged to hear that you *can* see them on another PC.
Not wanting to sound accusatory, but are both your copies of Logic totally legit and running with dongles? I wonder if that might account for the difference.

Óver here there's no record buttons for audio instrument channels in the mixer. And they've never been there either.
They are exisiting in the arrange though - so you can actually record multiple tracks at a time (which, fwiw, requires some workaround for audio instruments).
It's pretty weird that you don't have them in your arrange though.
I could send you some LSO to check whether the song is corrupted or so. But then, as you have it installed on another machine as well, you could try from there too.
