I've heard many tracks that time stretch vocals/sounds from one or two seconds in length to well over ten with hardly any of those little artifacts... now the best I think I've heard was in that redonoise tracker, where it plays the sample in short snipets...
Is there something similar that can that can "pull apart" a sound files snipets? say if i stretch it twice the size, all the holes get filled in by an exact copy of the bits nearest? so the file would be exactly twice in size right down to the bytes.
Either that or is there some new time stretcher I don't know about?

Most time stretchers seem to become wet and sloppy or squelchy... this sound doesn't have that it's more harsh digital... like stepping from one snipet to the next... if you stretched it out for a long time you would just hear tones. :/ that's best I can describe it!

what are you trying to ask :?:

i've worked with a lot of time strechers/shrinkers and for the price i think Acon's Studio Time is the best. i can stretch the heck out of clips within Sonar without hearing any artifacts - and i have a good ear. i don't know about the algorithyms used, i just know it sounds good and works good.
Wordsong.info - because something GOOD is on the way!

For a similar sound to the renoise retrigg you are talking about scrubber can do a similar effect:

It takes a bit of tweaking but could be helpful for you.

The best timestretch i've used was the Akai S1000's cylinder timestrech. That one did exactly what syncopated describes, it copied a set cylinder width -which the user defined- in the timestretch.
Funny that you ask about this syncopated_silence because i'm still looking for a similar timestretch effect to use that technique.
And yes, i still have the s1000 but it's too much of a hassle to use it for a wav.

You might find this interesting if you're a fan of harsh timestretch algorithms which turn the source into glitchy tones. It's not the same as the 'fixed window' type of timestretch you're describing, but the Waveset Distortion stuff in CDP can do a differently glitchy type of stretch in a sort of similar way by duplicating each waveset (a waveset is the portion of a wave between three adjacent zero crossings).

You can do it for free using a bit of a sneaky workaround at the CDP testers page here. Once you've signed up and everything, choose the 'interact' function and then upload 2 copies of the same file to be processed. Repeat with 2 copies of the new file depending on how long/glitchy a stretch you want.

Here's what the first five iterations sound like when you apply this process to Madonna's 'WTF' P2P bomb (safe for work if you have headphones).
