Sonar - is there anyway how to keep my plugins organization

I would love to figure this out. I'm using quite a lot of plugins from within Sonar so it's a must to have them organized into submenus (via renaming in the plugin manager). It's really exhausting to rename them all again and again with a new reinstall. Is there any way how to keep the organization (ie the way they are named) as a backup? I know that Subsonar does something similar but only with wrapped VST plugins... The majority of mine are DX ones. Thank you for your reply in advance!

I had a similar question about Sonar because I would like to organize plugins better within Sonar.

Other users pointed me in the direction of an app called "SubSonar".

I haven't tried it out yet, but it seems like this is what you're looking for.

Get it and find out more here:

That's genius. I don't even have Sonar but I'm glad I just read that.

Yes, Subsonar is the answer. Cakewalk should incorperate it in to the adapter.

But from subsonar documentation it is obvious it does not work with DX plugs, just with wrapped VST ones, does it?

It would be great if the VST protocol allowed indexing of words to be embedded to describe its function so the Host allows you to search for all your Reverb plugs or Compressor plugs etc.

Sonar already has a plugin manager under its Tools menu that allows naming of any plugin. If plugins have the first word in their names the same, they are automatically grouped in one folder within Sonar's menus. SubSonar can do the VST, but you will have to manually type the names to organize DXi. It IS possible at least. You only have to do it once though, as the info is not ruined by running the VST adapter like it is for VST of course.

Maybe I'm not speaking clearly but I DO know how to ORGANIZE the plugings, what I DON'T know is how to backup the organization so that I could use it after a system reinstall without having to rename each individual plugin again... Thanks

subsonar creates a file in it's directory that you can then back up.

Yeah, but Subsonar works with VSTs only while the mjority of my plugs are DX...

i believe sonar utils will export/save plugin registry settings (and then allow you to reimport them?): www.sonarutils.com or http://www.ennbr.com/SonarUtils/

With DX/DXi plugins I don't think it would take any less time than re-naming them in the plugin manager but you could export each and every CLSID with the "Friendly Name" and merge them one by one after they were re-installed. The plugin manager is mostly useful for backing up custom presets.
